Hold on to something stable because the world is crumbling like a cookie in milk. Oreo — everyone’s favorite twist-and-dunk snack — just hinted that they might be about to do something big with their name.
Today reports that on Friday, June 14th, the company changed the profile photos for its Twitter and Facebook accounts to an image that cuts out the first and last Os in its name, leaving the outline intact, with a block of blue in place of the letters. And it didn’t stop there. They’ve since posted an image in honor of World Blood Donor Day (which is today!) that uses this new-look logo.
Before we could mentally adjust our worldview to accommodate this new name, a few minutes after the profile change, Oreo (or RE) posted a cryptic photo to Twitter, showing Oreos (are we calling them REs now?) with partially removed fillings arranged in a circle. It appears to be the phases of the Moon, made from Oreo filling; and indeed, the caption reads, “We’re over the moon about what we’re announcing soon… stay tuned!” with a moon and camera emojis.

What could it mean?
Of course, some already have theories. Since the new logo is “OREO” with the end letters removed, many Facebook fans commented on the new profile photo that this might mean we’re finally getting a tube filled with just the delicious cream.
There’s one famous fan who may on board with this idea:
And Oreo REcently retweeted a poll suggesting that there could be a fan base for the concept:
Plus, they’ve trolled cream lovers before:
We really made these. (Or did we?) [We didn’t.] *Or did we?* pic.twitter.com/Hez3ioNQ3e

But there is an active cookie contingent out there:
The most popular theory, suggested by another Facebook user — and one backed up by the content of the Twitter posts — is that this could just be for World Blood Donor Day.
They mentioned that the letter “O” was likely removed to represent the blood type O, which the Red Cross says is the most in demand, as it can be given to anyone of any blood type.
Meanwhile on Instagram, the moon phase photo is making some users think we might be getting a new Oreo… RE… product very soon.
Specifically, it seems like the Marshmallow Moon Oreos teased in April have been cleared for landing:
As we reported, the moon-themed flavor is to celebrate 50 years since the first Moon landing, which happened on July 20th, 1969.
Speaking of O-re-o enigmas, another new flavor that’s coming out at some point is a total mystery:
But exactly when it will arrive—that's a mystery, too. https://t.co/4gIH9Xk0tg

Anyone who figures it out will have the chance to “win big,” according to the company, although actual details are still super vague. Meanwhile, your other favorite childhood party food, Pringles, are also playing with flavor this summer:
But people are still stumped:
Oreo are known on social media for their wordplay, especially in their flavor announcements. Here’s how they announced another new variety:
Although they got flak for not making it official:
Smoreos are back.... but @Oreo has once again failed to make a bomb ass pun. pic.twitter.com/Xea6f26ERd

Seriously, they love puns:
And rhymes — even when they’re not Oreo RE-lated:
So it seems like the Moon post and the altered logo are two separate announcements. We’re pleased to see Oreo supporting the Red Cross’s blood drive for World Blood Donor Day, the second best day of the year:
We’re always excited for #NationalOREODay, but all your love is the icing on the cake (or as we say, the creme in the OREO cookie)! pic.twitter.com/EHlNSb3RnX

Stay fun and keep punning, O-re-o!
