What Happened When A British Man Tried Taco Bell For The First Ti...

By now, you’ve probably heard that Taco Bell was voted as America’s top Mexican restaurant this year. Even though it’s news that will make every foodie sigh in disbelief (since, really?), it at least proves that Taco Bell is unstoppable. But do those of us outside America feel the same way? The first Taco Bell in London just opened, and Brits already have opinions.

One, in particular, wrote an article about it for Insider. Tom Murray’s feelings about the chain were posted on December 1st, and some of his points will make you laugh. It’s actually kind of thrilling to hear about someone’s very first Taco Bell experience — since we’ve been around the chain for decades, it’s hard to remember what that initial visit was like.

For one, Murray assumed that Taco Bell would only serve tacos. Which is pretty comical, as it seems like common knowledge these days that chalupas, burritos, and Nachos BellGrande are all part of it. “The Taco Bell menu was extensive, ranging from this Crunchwrap Supreme to burritos to nachos to loaded fries,” he wrote.

He was also stunned to learn that menu items are customizable. So if you want a burrito but aren’t a fan of beans, that could be easily solved with little issue.

But speaking of issues, he had a big one regarding the sayings imprinted on the company’s popular sauce packets. If you’re a fan of Fire Sauce, you probably know that it often features little quotes and phrases to make the experience even more enjoyable. But Murray actually missed the phrases altogether until he was assisted with the help of a Taco Bell employee.

Hey, they may not be necessary, but they’re just another way that Taco Bell is enhancing our overall experience!

One big difference between the London location and the Taco Bell restaurants in America? Over in London, they can serve beer. In fact, Murray believed this set them ahead of the game, since beer and tacos are a winning combination. “The addition of alcohol on offer, unsurprisingly, tipped it for these Brits and will likely do so for many of others,” Murray added.

Who knows? In a few years, as the brand expands, perhaps Taco Bell will win the title of World’s Favorite Mexican Restaurant.
