Reality star Kim Kardashian West has redefined mainstream beauty standards. Her insane curves have inspired many women (and men!) to switch up their workouts, change their diets, and do everything they can to get a butt like Kim’s. But what does Kim actually eat to maintain her frame?
Of course, being an A-list celebrity means that Kim has access to the best foods, best trainers, and best nutritionists — a luxury not all of us can afford. Plus, Kim may or may not have undergone a few procedures to help shape her body.
We did some digging to find out what exactly Kim has been eating in the past year or so. Her diets have fluctuated over the years, but she’s currently following a regimen similar to that of the keto diet (which she has previously expressed her fondness for). However, Kim is still human and eats very human things, because how can you avoid McDonald’s and ice cream?
Ahem — and it should be noted that we didn’t include any candy, teas, or blends that promote a “flat tummy.” We would very much like to be excluded from that narrative.
No one should never eat pancakes — it’s just inhumane. Good thing Kim K. agrees — Kim’s personal trainer, Melissa Alcantara, reportedly whips up a great blueberry oatmeal pancake for breakfast (which sound seriously amazing). “Kim loves them!” Alcantara told People in February 2018. You can learn how to make your very own version here. And check out Alcantara’s blog for other delicious Kim K.-approved recipes.
Kim clearly gets it, since she loves cake — she might as well be our best friend (a girl can dream). She obviously understands how to treat herself, and cake is one of her go-tos. It seems like any Kardashian (West) event or birthday is incomplete without a pretty extravagant and well-thought-out cake. And since Kim loves the treat, we know it’s not just for show (even though they are usually beautiful cake creations).
Yes, bison. She doesn’t shy away from the leanest of meats, no matter how seemingly uncommon they’d be for a Kardashian. They seem well-versed in high quality cuisine, so why wouldn’t Kim be into venison and bison? Plus, lean meats are good for building muscle, and we all know that Kim is very much into sculpting her amazing figure — I’m sure the bison helps out with that.
A classic. It seems like Kim K. has an appreciation for the trusty flavors that never really go out of style. If you think about it, you can’t really go wrong with vanilla cupcakes — and the same goes for vanilla frosting, too. While we’ve seen Kim indulge in multiple kinds of cake flavors with her sisters, kids, and nieces and nephews (chocolate, rainbow, Funfetti, etc.), there’s no doubt that vanilla cake with vanilla frosting is a Kardashian Krew fave.
Is it breakfast? Is it dessert? The world may never know (or care). This is another Alcantara recipe (available on her blog) that Kim eats as a little sweet treat when she’s sticking to her clean diet. Which is smart, considering banana bread isn’t one of those baked goods you expect to be super unhealthy — it’s got grains, fruit, and protein. I’d still consider it a dessert sometimes, but it sounds like a pretty well-balanced choice when maintaining a diet.
I don’t think a person who doesn’t like noodles even exists, so we’re glad to include them on Kim K’s list of foods she eats. It helps make her more relatable (as much as a Kardashian can be relatable), but it also shows she’s not going to lie about what she eats. Noodles aren’t exactly for health fanatics, especially when you order them out, so it’s clear that Kim is a fan of eating what she feels like without depriving herself of the joy that noodles are.
These are all fish species that are low in fat — each serving contains less than two grams. However, fish is a great source of protein outside of meat and usually contains less fat than everyday meat options. It’s also a fantastic dining-out dinner option, since fish can sometimes be hard to prepare yourself. Plus, you tend to feel more encouraged to get that glass of wine with a nice fish dinner at a fancy restaurant.
Garlic bread, pasta, rice bowls, mashed potatoes — how could those possibly be bad? We know what she means, because some carbs are technically better for you than others. Her “Get-Fit Grocery List” listed some good complex carbs like brown rice, white rice, sweet potatoes, red potatoes, couscous, and quinoa. At least rice and some forms of potatoes made Kim K’s list. But it’s important to note that this is her “get fit” list, meaning maybe if she were having a treat, mashed potatoes would definitely have made the cut.
We guess she didn’t see the CDC warning. So, again, Kim K. is just like us. Making chocolate cupcakes. Eating the raw batter. Not caring about the CDC’s intense salmonella warnings. We love seeing celebs in their natural element, especially when we do the same things. Despite that, it is a little shocking that she was making chocolate cupcakes, since we know vanilla is the all-time favorite. We’re all multidimensional creatures, after all.
Especially in such a big family, like with the Kardashians, pizza is always an option when everyone’s around. And since there are tons and tons of kiddos in the family now, eating pizza is like the best possible (and easiest) meal option. The Kardashians must be thrilled pizza exists, because it just feeds so many people. Not to mention, it tastes pretty dang awesome, and there are so many potential combinations to be made. Kim K just gets it.
Ready for this? According to her “Get-Fit Grocery List,” Kim eats Brussels sprouts, kale, spinach, broccoli (“this includes rabe, broccolini, etc.,” she writes), cauliflower, edamame, zucchini, green beans, peppers, avocados, black beans, carrots, peas. That’s a lot of veggies, but we’re not surprised. You obviously have to eat vegetables to stay in good shape (and feel healthy, most importantly), and that’s exactly where Kim K. is at. But there’s a lot of variety here, which is nice, and lots of these veggies and legumes are things that can be spiced up with the right seasoning.
Bananas, apples, blackberries, blueberries, raspberries, strawberries, and coconut all made the list as well. Eating well is all about balance, so with all of those vegetables Kim K. loves so dearly, there has to be an equal amount of delicious fruits in the mix. These would technically be considered good carbs, right? We’re going to go with “yes,” but Kim might have some different thoughts. We’re just a little concerned that watermelon isn’t on there — what’s wrong with watermelon?
Not only does pineapple juice taste like a luxurious Hawaiian getaway, we did Google the benefits, and it turns out pineapple juice is great for immune health, digestion, eye health, bone strength, blood clot reduction, inflammation, and so much more. Who knew there were so many actual health benefits to drinking this stuff? Kim Kardashian, that’s who. It’s probably how she seems to always stay in good health, at least, as far as we know. BRB, adding pineapple juice to my grocery list.
“Or oatmeal, or a protein shake with fruit,” Kim told Harper’s Bazaar in 2015. Kim Kardashian’s breakfasts are just like ours. Never thought you’d be saying that, huh? When you think of a celebrity’s breakfast, you might think of caviar and poached eggs or some fancy porridge. Nope, not here. A nice egg scramble or protein shake gets us (and Kim) through the day. And these aren’t dishes that are extremely health-conscious, but it shows that Kim is mindful about what she puts in her body.
Okay, yes. These are not good for you. But who doesn’t crave these at 1 a.m. sometimes? No doubt, these are the best fast food French fries to exist, and we’re glad Kim thinks so, too. That perfect saltiness balanced with the thin shape of each fry. Perfection. Not to mention McDonald’s is cheap, almost always open, and exist literally everywhere so everyone can get in on their delicious fried potatoes. Maybe one of these days, you’ll catch Kim in the same drive-thru.
When in Rome — er, Tokyo! We know that Kim has always been a fan of ice cream. One time, she posted a #TBT on Instagram from when she was only 15 years old, chowing down on an ice cream cone, asking when National Ice Cream Day is in the caption. She might as well be National Ice Cream Day’s spokesperson. And since ice cream is always a solid go-to dessert, why not celebrate it every single day? I’m sure Kim would be right there with us.
So, it’s not just the fries, it seems. It’s like her love of ice cream and McDonald’s meets to make the ultimate combination. This means we can go get a McFlurry now, right? But Kim isn’t loyal only to McDonald’s when it comes to frozen treats. Kim has also admitted to having a soft spot for Häagen-Dazs ice cream. “That’s like my one go-to,” she told People per BravoTV. Of course, just the creamiest, most flavorful ice cream brand there is.
If you decide to follow a Kim K-inspired diet, don’t beat yourself up if you don’t end up looking exactly like Kim. Like we said, she has her celebrity on her side. Stick to a diet that makes you feel great about yourself, boosts your energy, and brings out the best in you.
