What happens when Bollywood royalty marries a Disney Channel star-turned-music industry maven? A massively expensive, two-day, East-meets-West celebration. Priyanka Chopra and Nick Jonas were married twice during the weekend of December 2nd and 3rd, and as we all expected, their multiple ceremonies and receptions were lavish, luxe, and over the top. Do you even want to know how much Chopra and Jonas’s wedding cost?
That’s the price of two or three houses. Or 30 years of college tuition. Or 15 luxury cars. Or 70,000 Chipotle burritos.
Listen, we get that weddings are an expensive venture for the average couple. But what the heck did Chopra and Jonas spend half a million dollars on? Firstly, the couple and their guests had to get from New York to Jodhpur, which, according to E! News, can cost about $1,300 — if one is flying coach. However, a first class flight from New York to Jodhpur costs somewhere around a whopping $10,000.
But that’s chump change for the mega-celeb couple, who are worth an estimated $53 million. As was the palace rental, which set them back about $461,000. Chopra and Jonas rented out the entire 5-star Taj Umaid Bhawan Palace hotel from November 29th to December 3rd to accommodate their guest list.
The Hindu pre-wedding ceremonies, including the mehendi henna ritual and the sangeet ceremony, which looked more like a Broadway musical than a wedding celebration, cost an estimated $42,000. And according to the Times Of India, the cost of catering alone staggered at $61,000.
The Chopra-Jonas wedding was everything we expected it to be and a lot more. Brother Joe Jonas and fiancée Sophie Turner are next in line to enter into wedded bliss. However, something tells us their nuptials won’t be as extra as Chopra and Jonas’s.
