Katy Perry Looks Like A Burger At The Met Gala After-Party — No, Really

We thought we had seen Katy Perry at her peak campiness when she arrived to the May 6th Met Gala dressed as a literal chandelier. But boy, were we wrong. Perry showed up to a Met Gala after-party looking like a straight-up snack — actually, she looked more like a McDonald’s Happy Meal. The singer wore a hamburger dress designed by Jeremy Scott, and this look will surely go down in fashion history.

Perry’s hamburger outfit came complete with a lettuce mini dress, bedazzled sesame seed buns, pickles, cheese, tomato, and of course, a delicious hamburger patty. She even wore matching hamburger sneakers designed by Erin Lareau Design and a toothpick headpiece.

If you couldn’t already tell by the mere mention of a “hamburger dress,” the theme of this year’s Met Gala was camp, that being an over-the-top display of irony, humor, and general #extra-ness. Some celebs attempted to interpret and *kind of* pulled off the theme, whereas others like Perry went big with no intention of going home.

After carefully tip-toeing up the stairs of the Met while balancing a lit chandelier atop her head, it was more than necessary for Perry to change into something a bit more comfortable to schmooze, eat, dance, and dine in. So, the hamburger dress was called into action.

Here she is with camp queen Celine Dion. Dion’s grip on the patty plus Perry’s face is making us wonder what the heck was going on in this moment.

The burger part of the outfit was completely detachable. Perry could step in and out of it with “ease,” which is vital for using the bathroom (at the same time as JLo, btw).

For those of you who missed her first outfit of the evening, here’s Perry in her “lit” chandelier costume. We wonder how many times she heard that joke last night…

We can’t quite decide which look we like best. Because it’s lunchtime, we’ll say the burger dress is our fave.

Perry ‘grammed both pairs of her Met Gala shoes and accessories at the end of the night. Although it’s hidden underneath her buns and secret sauces, Perry also carried a mini jewel-encrusted hamburger clutch bag designed by Judith Leiber.

In fact, Leiber was actually the mastermind behind several of the crazy bag creations we saw on the pink carpet last night, including Hailee Steinfled’s camera clutch. We didn’t even realize that was a bag, tbh.

She also created the now-famous eye bag carried by Janelle Monáe. A genius collaboration between Leiber and designer Christian Siriano, if we do say so ourselves.

Twitter was ablaze during the entire night of Met Gala festivities. However, when the hamburger came out to play, everyone got fired up.

Perry gave new meaning to “shake your buns.” And Harry Styles is seemingly not into it.

To be fair, she *does* kind of look like a mascot for a fast food chain. We’re not saying that’s bad. We’re just saying…

We must admit — we may never look at a hamburger the same way again. We will forever see Perry’s shocked face amidst a sea of sesame seeds.

Whether you love or hate the hamburger look, one must give Perry credit for taking such a fashion risk. Lettuce appreciate this rare moment of bonkers Met Gala fashion.
