Kylie Jenner Says Her Baby Loves Sushi, Of Course Sparks Controversy

Before I had a kid, it was a little too easy for me to mom-shame. Whenever a kid had a tantrum in a public place, I couldn’t believe their parents even thought to take them out when they didn’t behave well, or weren’t willing to go in the first place. If a kid was attached to an iPad or gaming device, I couldn’t believe they couldn’t teach their kids to pay attention — even just for a few minutes.

Then, I figured it out. All parents are out there trying to survive, with a ticking time bomb that may explode even if all of their boxes are checked. Kids are just difficult. And, one of the biggest battles is usually food. That is, unless you’re Stormi Webster.

Kylie Jenner’s famous 15-month-old has a really intriguing palate, and it’s one that’s incredibly uncommon for someone who hasn’t even reached their second birthday. While most kids like food that’s mild or packed with sugar, Jenner has gone on record to say that Stormi can’t get enough of sushi and edamame.

Now, you may have cringed when you read that. Sushi? It’s off-limits for pregnant women, so you’d imagine it’d also be off-limits for toddlers.

But, luckily Jenner clarified. The type of sushi that Stormi digs doesn’t contain raw fish. (Phew.)

Still, it’s kind of an odd choice to even try with a baby. Many kids have texture issues, and sushi contains a lot of different ones.

But, it seems like Stormi has no problem with chowing down. Especially when it comes to edamame, which is a must-have appetizer.

“Stormi loves sushi,” Jenner admitted in a vlog. “I don’t feed her anything raw, but she just loves edamame. They’ll bring the whole thing of edamame. She will not stop until it’s all gone. She eats all the edamame.”

After the story was posted, a lot of people had a concern that, even without the raw fish, it may be a dangerous choice. Especially since sushi, in general, can be questionable if it’s not made in a reputable restaurant.

But, something to remember is that Jenner is taking Stormi to Nobu. The fancy restaurant (like, really, really fancy) is known for having incredible food, so it’s not like she’s eating at a random joint that didn’t pass the health inspection.

Also, children over the age of one are usually cleared for eating most foods. The CDC clears children to begin solids at around six months, depending on the child. Usually, by seven or eight months, it’ll become more natural. Of course, it’s best to ask your pediatrician when your child is ready to explore more food options.

If Stormi had any particular allergies, Jenner would know by now. And, she would make sure that Stormi was properly served and taken care of. After all, she’s not a monster — she knows that baby better than anyone.

But, people are giving Jenner the side-eye for her sushi comments for a few reasons. For one, it’s a reminder that her family is famous and can afford to pay for that sushi plate if Stormi chose to reject it.

It’s understandable why the story could come off as being a little jarring. But really, it should be celebrated.

For one, sushi is relatively healthy for you. And edamame is close to perfect.

Plus, it’s quite unlikely that Jenner takes her baby out to grab sushi and edamame every day.

Healthline reports that edamame is high in protein. It’s also got a ton of vitamins and minerals. So by presenting Stormi with the popular bean early on, she’s developing really healthy eating habits.

It’s also a good reminder that every toddler is different. Moms out there try so hard to get their kids to eat healthy foods, but often fall victim to pizza and chips when they’ve refused everything else throughout the day. Sure, it might not be the best option — but it literally happens to everyone.

By presenting an odd food that may get some criticism, Jenner is actually reminding us that moms need to stop feeling guilty over things like this. Especially since it’s not like she’s revealed all of the foods that Stormi eats throughout the day, and they’re all packed with sodium.

It’s really important to introduce your child to a lot of different foods. Who knows? Maybe they’ll end up finding an unexpected favorite.

But who knows if this will even last.Toddlers are notorious for loving something one week and moving on just days later. As parents, it’s pretty frustrating.

But, it’s a reminder that you should never just rotate the same safe selections with your kids. It’s healthy for them to be exposed to new foods if they’re deemed safe — even if it’s sushi.

And, next time you’re thinking of mom-shaming Kylie Jenner? Try not to. It’s an unhealthy habit, and surely she’s also going through a lot of tough toddler times that she’s just not broadcasting. Moms should always look to boost each other up, even if they happen to be a celebrity.
