Miley Cyrus And Liam Hemsworth’s Wedding Cake Is Not What You’d Expect

The beans have officially been spilled: Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth will be ringing in the New Year as a married couple. Their friend Conrad Jack Carr posted photos from their secret/not-so-secret December 23rd wedding celebration on his Instagram Story. And the party was incredibly low-key — like so low-key that Cyrus and Hemsworth’s wedding cake is teetering on boring. It’s certainly not something we’d expect from a sequin-obsessed happy hippie like Cyrus.

Cyrus, dressed in an off-the-shoulder white satin dress, and Hemsworth in a black suit were surrounded by casually-dressed friends and family in their Nashville abode. Carr posted a photo of Cyrus and Hemsworth cutting their two-tiered wedding cake, decorated with a simple floral arrangement.

Don’t get us wrong — it’s a beautiful cake. Although it doesn’t scream “she’s just being Miley,” it definitely represents Cyrus’s recent evolution out of her teddy bear jumpsuits and into her classic black turtleneck.

In Carr’s snapshot, momma Tish Cyrus stands off to the side in a black blouse and jeans. And the rest of the party-goers definitely went for a dressy-casual look. Some fans think the casual dress code may mean that this party was simply a wedding rehearsal. However, Cyrus and Hemsworth like to keep things private. So throwing themselves a down-home wedding makes a lot of sense.

Check out those Mr. and Mrs. balloons in the background of the video:

Having seen our fair share of outrageous celebrity wedding cakes (*cough cough* Priyanka Chopra and Nick Jonas’s 18-tiered cake *cough cough*), we can appreciate when celebs opt to go the simple route. Here are a few other celebrities who kept their cakes low-key….

Here’s Emmy Rossum’s plain white four-tiered beauty:

Domino Kirke and Penn Badgely’s “naked” fresh fruit cake:

Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt’s kids made their parents’ wedding cake:

Anna Camp and Skylar Astin went for just a few flowers:

Bridget Moynahan and Andrew Frankel had a cake similar to that of Cyrus and Hemsworth — two tiers with rippled frosting:

As did Ian Somerhalder and Nikki Reed (plus a tier).

Billy Porter and Adam Smith had two tiers and two fondant bowties:

No frosting needed for Dave Coulier and Melissa Bring’s fruity cake:

Chrissy Teigen and John Legend opted out of frosting, too:

As did Hilary Duff and Mike Comrie:

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s deconstructed cake certainly didn’t upstage the bride:

Lauren Conrad and William Tell cut this tiny cake and then served their guests apple pie:

Gwyneth Paltrow and Brad Falchuck went for quantity and quality with these mini, super simple carrot cakes:

With these wedding cake hacks, your special cake will be anything but boring:

We’re sending massive congratulations to Cyrus and Hemsworth. To be surrounded by friends, family, and good vibes is the best kind of wedding there is — big or small.
