Dr. Pepper Just Released A New Soda, Its First New Flavor In Five Years

dark berry Dr Pepper

I have a special bond with Dr. Pepper. For one, it’s the only doctor I enjoy spending time with. And two, it reminds me of college. That was actually the first time I gave it a try in its diet form, and it was seriously like no other soda I’ve tried before. Probably because there are supposedly 23 flavors mixed into every sip. That fact might be why it’s so rare for the brand to think up new products, but alas — after five years, the time has come.

Dr. Pepper just announced a new version called Dark Berry, and it might be one of the coolest sodas this year. So, what’s a “dark berry,” really? Well, in true Dr. Pepper fashion, they couldn’t just focus on one — instead, according to People, they added three berry flavors to the mix. Beverage aficionados will notice hints of black currant, blackberry, and black cherry.

One superhero, in particular, is probably fond of the drink. This version of Dr. Pepper was created to help support Spiderman: Far From Home, which means that Tom Holland might have been able to take a few sips of the new soda in advance.

Hopefully, he doesn’t fall in love with it because it’s only a limited-edition release. Stock up while you can!

Even though the official release date is May 1st, people are already spotting Dark Berry Dr. Pepper in grocery stores. So, it couldn’t hurt to look and see if your store got an early shipment.

It looks like it’s available in cans, bottles, and two-liters. Regardless of your preferred soda-drinking method, Dr. Pepper has you covered.

One fan tried it on a whim. Admitting they thought it might be gross, they managed to think it was “delightful.”

Now the bad news: For people who prefer their sodas on the light side, it doesn’t look like there’s a diet equivalent.

But that doesn’t mean it’s not worth trying. So far, the fans who have found it have really enjoyed it.

One person even referred to it as the “Year’s Best New Soda.” And since berry sodas are usually hit or miss, that’s a pretty high honor.

Since Dr. Pepper has such a strong taste on its own, some people can’t even imagine what the berry flavor is like. Does it taste anything like the original?

Maybe not. Reason being, some people who don’t even like soda are excited to give it a shot.

So many people love it. This guy already (and adorably) changed his profile picture to express his infatuation.

And this brief Twitter review proves that the superhero tie-in was a really good idea. Well done, marketing.

Last week, it showed up at a grocery store unannounced, and people on Reddit’s ToFizzOrNotToFizz almost lost their minds when they saw a photo. There is something very, very appealing about the blue color used on the packaging.

Someone else on Reddit claimed to be one of the first to actually try it. They said they got the opportunity after posting a photo on Instagram in a contest. Of course, they’re not the first, but they may be up there.

And according to them, it really was good and worth buying. So there you have it — even though this drink isn’t available everywhere just yet, it seems to have 100% positive reviews.

You guys know what that means, right? This drink will disappear and people will immediately get nostalgic.

Just think about all the drinks of the past you wish you could have again. Even though some have made comebacks, like Surge, it’s never a given. And plus, it might not be the exact same if it ever hits stores again.

So, make sure you grab enough to last for some time. It’s what Spiderman would want.
