We will go to Chicago and talk about a italian beef sandwich, and we will go to Cleveland for a Polish Boy, as well as San Diego for a California Burrito. Time to push the envelope on the word “sandwich”, and look at some awesome eats, and hopefully we won’t make you too hungry!
When people hear Chicago, they think about deep dish pizza. There is another cornerstone food of Chi-town though, and it isn’t a pie- it’s the Italian beef sandwich!
An Italian beef sandwich really comes with everything. Savory beef combined with a hot pepper mixture all on a soft bun. It is a genius creation that people travel all over the world to come to Chicago to eat! It really is the definition of Chicago if you ask the locals.
Cleveland is a well-known hub for food. Their iconic dish is the Polish boy. This dish brings together incredible toppings on a kielbasa sausage placed in a bun. Every bite is flavorful and packs a mean punch!
Some establishments grill the sausage, some will deep fry it. The one thing that is the same, the sausage gets covered in french fries, coleslaw, and BBQ sauce. It is a truly delicious sandwich, and a must-try if you ever come through Cleveland. Don’t forget to stop at the Rock N Roll Hall of Fame.
So the mission-style burrito created in San Fransisco in the 1960’s is an iconic DIY lunch. Eventually what happened in San Diego was they took that burrito and added some components to it that were becoming so popular they eventually had to give it a name and dubbed this burrito “the California burrito”.
The burrito typically consists of carne asada, french fries, cheese, cilantro, pico de gallo, and sometimes sour cream and onion or guacamole. It is a delicious burrito that has a lot going on but always hits the spot. It is iconic all over California and now the US as a whole. Burritos are the best, and the California-style is as good as it gets.
Miami is of course very well-known for its heavy Cuban culture. That is heard the music in the air, and of course seen in the food cooking in the kitchen. One of the most iconic sandwiches made in Miami is without a doubt their keystone sandwich, the Cuban sandwich.
The Cuban is a variation of a ham and cheese sandwich. It is ham, mojo (roasted pork), swiss cheese, pickles, mustard, sometimes salami, all on Cuban bread. Salami is more typical in Tampa Bay with the larger Italian population, but still the recipes revolves around that Cuban sandwich concept that people love!
Everyone knows of Texas as the home of BBQ. It is all about the meat there. Brisket especially is a fan favorite. Going a step further with it, people have been for years now eating this classic BBQ delicacy on two buns.
The sandwich is a delicious combination of meat and bread. The BBQ sauce is the perfect topper to this sandwich, you really couldn’t pick a better protein-packed sammy. It typically is served with pickles and additional BBQ sauce.
Nashville is known for two things: Country music, and hot chicken! Hot chicken is the main eat in Nashville and one of their biggest attractions!
Typically, the sandwich is served with pickles and coleslaw. It’s a delicious creation, people have taken to making their own versions all over the world, and it is one of the most popular chicken sandwiches in the US!
