Entertaining So Yummy

The New Buttered Popcorn Oreo Flavor Sounds So Bad That It Actually Might Be Good?

I have mixed feelings about Jelly Belly jelly beans. As a kid, it was kind of fascinating to taste a variety of different flavors in bean form. They seemed like something Willy Wonka would dream up. But for all of the fantastic flavors, there was always one or two clunkers in there that ruined the experience. I’m talking about the buttered popcorn flavor. While there’s literally nothing better than grabbing some buttered popcorn at the movies, there was something unsettling about eating it as a candy. And surely I’d probably feel the same if it morphed into a cookie, as Oreo is trying to do.

You read that right — Oreo has created a buttered popcorn-flavored cookie, and you might feel a little nauseated at the thought. The good news is, they’re ditching the chocolate wafer. Which — phew. That was one of my biggest concerns right out of the gate.

The interesting thing about the Buttered Popcorn Oreo is that it’s still shielded in mystery. It was sent to a few snack-based Instagrammers as a mystery flavor. TheJunkFoodAisle wrote that they guessed it to be something else entirely.

“Weird but true: I got to try one of these last month without being told what flavor it was, and I would have put all my money on it being ‘Pineapple’ after just licking the creme,” they wrote. “Eating it in its natural sandwich cookie state though and it becomes everyone’s least favorite Jelly Belly (but better!).” Glad they agree with me on the Jelly Belly.

As expected, comments ranged from an ill-faced emoji to “not thrilled but I’ll try em.” Others commented that there were other flavors they expected to hate, but ended up enjoying them. So who knows?

One thing’s for sure — we should really have a little more faith in Oreo. They’ve released some crazy flavors in the past that have sounded incredibly questionable and ended up tasting pretty good.

Like, who could have guessed these would be so good?

So, it’s hard to knock it before trying it. Even though as Twitter has proven, it’s very very easy to criticize them based on how little we know.

Weird, but true — during Oreo’s “My Oreo Creations” contest back in 2017, a few people actually thought this would be a good idea.

Our kinda Oreo:

So, will you try them? Admit it — even if you’re a little repulsed, you’re still probably a little curious.
