Getting in the Halloween spirit means putting up spooky decorations, picking out costumes, and deciding which Halloween-themed recipe to try. Fortunately, this year, Burger King is really getting into the Halloween spirit – first they released an intimidating “black cherry”-flavored Fanta slushie (yes, it’s literally black) and now, they have a sandwich called the “Nightmare King.”
According to their press release, “This spooky sandwich features ¼ lb of savory flame-grilled beef, a 100% white meat crispy chicken fillet, melted American cheese, thick cut bacon, creamy mayonnaise, and onions all assembled on a glazed green sesame seed bun.” Yes, you read that correctly – a green bun, and it’s not just any type of green. It’s bright. neon. green. Scared yet?
To get the name “Nightmare King,” Burger King partnered with Goldforest Inc. and Paramount Trials and Florida Sleep & Neuro Diagnostic Services Inc. to conduct a scientific study over 10 nights with 100 participants. Each participant ate the Nightmare King before they went to bed and then the team monitored different signals from participants, including heart rate, brain activity, breathing, and their dreams. They found that the chances of having an actual nightmare after eating the Nightmare King increased by 3.5 times.
The idea of intentionally giving myself nightmares does not appeal to me. But this sounds like a damn good sandwich, so I might have to risk it. #FastFood #BurgerKing #NightmareKing #Yummy https://t.co/MPC0emkGF4

Burger King has unveiled a Nightmare Burger and I gotta be honest, I’m kinda tempted to try it just to see the green poop I’ll take later. pic.twitter.com/kci0O0ARBH

We totally understand if Burger King’s latest release is too much for you, but there are other Halloween-inspired treats out there — like the Spider Doughnut from Dunkin’ Donuts that, despite its scary name, looks kinda cute.
