Dairy Queen Created The Craziest 4th Of July Drink We’ve Ever Seen, And Yes, It’s Edible

It’s almost the 4th of July, and you know what that means — burgers, hot dogs, fireworks, and fun! Since Independence Day is typically an outdoor celebration, it makes sense that Dairy Queen would offer celebratory Blizzards that’ll help Americans cool down.

If you’ve never had a Blizzard, yes, you’re missing out on something. The frosty treat is one of Dairy Queen’s specialties and has been in production since 1985. That first year, over 175 million Blizzards were sold. In time, DQ would become America’s number one treat chain — and it’s safe to say the Blizzard only helped them with that title. Blizzards are more or less soft serve with mix-ins like cookies and candy.

Here’s what they’re planning for their 4th of July Blizzard selection: the Star-Spangled Blizzard and an Oreo Firework Blizzard. Might as well get both, right? I mean, it’s a holiday and all.

The Star-Spangled Blizzard, their official 4th of July offering, is all about layers. A layer of vanilla, then a layer of rock candy, then another layer of vanilla, topped with a layer of rock candy. When completed, it’s perfectly red, white, and blue. Sounds like it’s a tribute to the American flag, but edible (and delicious). Dairy Queen states it’s a limited release, so you might want to grab one while you can.

Their second celebratory Blizzard, the Oreo Firework Blizzard, is also a vanilla Blizzard mixed with red and blue candies — but it also contains pieces of Oreo, since Oreo makes everything better. It’s pretty much these, but in ice cream form:

According to QSR, the Oreo Firework Blizzard will be available throughout July, as it’s the Blizzard of the Month.

Is there a better way to celebrate the 4th of July? I don’t think so. Just remember — if your Dairy Queen server fails to showcase your delicious Blizzard upside-down in select locations, it’s on the house.

If you’re throwing a 4th of July party and are in need of some food ideas, we highly recommend these frozen treats. Because summer!

They’re tasty and bonus: they’ll keep you cool.
