Domino’s Came Up With A Hot Dog Pizza Topping That Sounds Straight-Up Nasty

Listen, I have nothing but respect for Domino’s. After they had those advertisements striving to be better, I felt like they were in a wonderful position for an award-winning comeback. But even though they’ve managed to turn things around for the better, it doesn’t mean that they still don’t goof up every once in a while.

According to Delish, a few Domino’s locations are adding hot dogs to the menu in a pretty radical way.

They’ve added them as a topping on what’s now known as a Hot Dog Pizza, and have also created hot dog-stuffed calzones. But here’s the kicker — even though hot dogs are kind of tied in with American cuisine, these changes are only happening in France.

Strange, huh?

Maybe over there, it seems like an exotic choice. Over here, however, it’d seem like a child’s invention gone wrong. The taste can’t be all that terrible, but even looking at it may be a bit of a challenge. Why not just stick with pepperoni?

The calzone is actually pretty simple.

Brand Eating reports that the key ingredients include mozzarella, hot dogs, and mustard.

So really, it seems like something you could whip up at home if you were feeling super adventurous.

Based on the photos on Instagram, it seems like this pizza has a lot going for it.

The hot dogs are sliced pretty thin, meaning that it’s trying to emulate a real pizza topping.

But from the looks of it, there’s also a hot dog in the crust?

It’s kind of impressive, but also looks like it might be a choking hazard.

Remember back in the day, when we all thought that the craziest thing to put in a crust was cheese?

It was Pizza Hut who brought Stuffed Crust to our lives, and even that seemed like it’d be enough.

(But to be fair, they did add bacon recently. Bacon has been pretty popular in fast food this year.)

The calzone, which is officially called the “Calz Hot Dog Stuffed Calzone,” seems to leave a lot to be desired.

But maybe that’s because once again, Pizza Hut already did it with the P’Zone, which is currently being served again after a long hiatus.

But on the outside? Their calzones don’t seem all that bad.

Domino’s apparently knows what they’re doing. Because this isn’t the first time they’ve used hot dogs in their pizza.

A similar product was launched in other countries, and it’s apparent that they’re dying to have it back.

So, perhaps it was a way bigger seller than you could ever imagine.

In Australia, a hot dog crust was reportedly introduced as an add-on. Because YOLO.

But, it’s not for everyone.

In fact, it’s a pretty controversial menu item, and Domino’s has known this for years.

Surprisingly, they’re not the only chain out there with a hot dog pizza. There are plenty of others who’ve tried to mix the two iconic meals.

This item from Fancy Franks Gourmet Hot Dogs actually changes it up, by putting the pizza on the hot dog. Now, this looks like something worth eating.

It’s also something you can easily make at home.

Sure, making a pizza at home isn’t as satisfying if you’re looking for a lazy meal, but at least this way, you can control the amount of hot dog you’re using.

Since it’s such an odd topping, let’s face it.

You might want to start slow to get used to the taste.

You have to give props to Domino’s for being so versatile.

Maybe if it gains enough popularity during its run in France, they’ll consider bringing it over to the United States.

But if not, I think the country will be fine with just cheese.

In fact, I’m sure of it.
