This Man Called 911 On McDonald’s Because His Food Arrived Cold

By now, we all know that 911 is for emergencies only. Is someone breaking and entering? Did someone have a heart attack, but no way to get to the hospital? Then 911 is the best way to connect with someone who can help. But for issues like “my food is too cold,” you might find that it’s better to speak to a manager. Unfortunately, one McDonald’s customer didn’t get that memo.

A man from Canada ordered some McDonald’s grub and wasn’t happy with what he received. Yes, he got a hamburger and fries — but they were cold. Even though microwaves exist in kitchens nationwide, everyone knows it’s just not the same. The customer, irate, called 911, since he didn’t know what to do. The Hamilton Police Department came by and reminded him that while it was an annoying circumstance, it was in no way an emergency. Per CBC, the interaction actually happened at McDonald’s, meaning it’s possible the customer originally went right to the source.

“Calling 911 with nuisance calls ties up our lines and makes it difficult for people with serious emergencies to get through to dispatchers,” service spokesperson Jackie Penman said to CBC. “The system is meant for life [or] death emergencies.”

Even though the call shouldn’t have technically happened, the Hamilton Police Department had a sense of humor about what went down after all was said and done. As you’d expect, a lot of people contacted them about the McDonald’s incident.

Of course, afterward, it was simply business as usual. The Hamilton Police Department has a lighthearted feed at times, but they’re still dedicated to making sure their community is a safe place to be.

As for the man plagued with cold food, hopefully he knows that his concerns are valid — just not with the emergency service staff.
