McDonald’s FINALLY Released The Dessert We’ve All Been Waiting For

UPDATE (Wednesday, February 13th, 2019, 9:35am PST): McDonald’s Donut Sticks are finally going on their menu, Delish reported. Expect to see these on the menu starting February 20th.

Remember when Dunkin’ Donuts (or as they’re known these days, Dunkin’) revealed that they added Donut Fries to the menu? The menu addition was pretty well-received — and from the outside, it looks like McDonald’s took note.

There’s a huge rumor that the company that’s most famous for their irresistible burgers will add an item called Donut Sticks to their breakfast offerings this February. But again, this information hasn’t been confirmed by the company just yet. In fact, the information was reportedly leaked by Business Insider, who state that the yummy new item looks a lot like Dunkin’s product. The Donut Sticks over at McDonald’s will consist of fried dough that’s coated with cinnamon sugar. They’re reportedly only going to be available for a limited time.

That’s one leg up that Dunkin’ already has on the company. Their Donut Fries, which were officially released last June, seem to be a permanent menu item. So that means that the second you can’t get your fix at McDonald’s, sales will likely rise once again for Dunkin’, who seem a bit more fit to have a product like this. Since, you know, they’re a donut shop and all. Their specialty IS donuts after all.

It’s also pretty interesting that McDonald’s is adding this as a breakfast item. Even though breakfast is now available all day, it looks like they’re aiming to pair these with their McCafe beverages.

Unfamiliar with Donut Fries and Donut Sticks all together? Well, here are some delicious-looking photos from some very satisfied Dunkin’ fans.

You might not know this, but there’s a fast food chain that’s been offering sweet breakfast treats on its menu the whole time — Taco Bell.

Yes, you probably know their menu best for their truly delicious AM Crunchwraps (seriously, a must-try) but they also have Cinnabon Delights which are more like warm, light Munchkins.

So, it makes sense that McDonald’s would want to offer up some sort of treat for breakfast, especially since Dunkin’ and Taco Bell have seen a ton of success.

According to The Daily Meal, McDonald’s was reportedly testing their product way before Dunkin’. Since Dunkin’ knows donuts, it’s possible that their product didn’t require as much research.

Regardless, fans of both chains have feelings.

It’s a pretty safe bet to say these new Donut Sticks will be a hit. But it’ll be really fun to compare them with the Dunkin’ variety this February. What better excuse to invite friends over than a donut taste test?

This is big for McDonald’s for another reason. If true, it’ll be the second new breakfast item to hit their menus in a matter of months. In November, they introduced Triple Breakfast Stacks, which were made for people who are pretty serious about breakfast.

So, who knows if they have more ideas under their sleeve for 2019?  It’ll be interesting to see what else they can come up with.
