When you like a fast food restaurant, you represent it by sporting the logo any way you can. It might seem strange, but most companies have their own online stores where they sell you way more than what’s on the value menu. McDonald’s sells their licensed merch on a site called Smilemakers, which is open to the public.
Adam Moussa, who works at Eater and Polygon, likely didn’t get his McDonald’s sweater through Smilemakers. It looks like it was part of a promo that McDonald’s did with UberEats. Earlier this year, the companies partnered together to sell vintage-inspired merch to customers who signed up for the McDelivery program. One of the most popular items seems to be a sweatshirt that has “Classic” repeated, with a McDonald’s arch underneath. It looks like it was also available as a tee.
Moussa showcased his own McDonald’s sweatshirt on Twitter, and realized that it might not be as great when the temperature drops. Why? Well with the addition of a coat blocking certain parts of the design, it seems like McDonald’s is sending another message entirely. And not going to lie, it’s pretty funny.
They say dress for the job you want, so... Good luck, I guess.

So yes — the shirt became a classic for an entirely different reason. It’s also a good reminder for all of us to think about our whole ensemble when going out — since incidents like this could literally happen to anyone.
