If you consider yourself a foodie, it’s usually not the best idea to visit chains like McDonald’s while traveling overseas (or maybe it IS the best idea — depends on how you describe “foodie”). But if you do, you should probably avoid the standard items and try out some of the local specialties that the chain is offering — since some menu items are bonkers. So, best news ever if you’re U.S.-based and don’t have the funds to book a ticket overseas. One very special McDonald’s location in Chicago is offering fare from locations across the world, including what may be the craziest fast food fries ever. Talk about genius.
The fries come from Hong Kong. Hong Kong also offers the delightful lilac soft serve ice cream that tastes like sweet potatoes, possibly making it the best McDonald’s of all time. But you might not want to dip these fries into the sweet potato ice cream, like you would with a Wendy’s chocolate Frosty. That is, unless you’re a notable fan of weird combos.
It makes me reminisce my favorite long-gone McDonald’s product, the McSalad Shaker. Seriously, those things changed up the way I ate salad.
But, back to Chicago’s menu. Aside from the fries, which sound delicious, other menu items include a Quarter Pounder with a blue cheese spread instead of standard American, an English muffin creation called the Sausage McMuffin Tomato Salad, and a Baci McFlurry.
Baci, for the record, is an Italian chocolate. So, yum.
Out of everything, the Wasabi Fries seem the most possible to recreate at home. So if you’re not located in Hong Kong or Chicago, it might be a really fun side homemade side to tonight’s dinner.

Enjoy!
