This New “Chef’s Kiss” Emoji Is The One That Actually Matters — But There’s A Catch

Anyone remember what life was like before emojis? I do — but the tale is not pretty. Back in the day, we had to rely on simple punctuation marks in order to express mood. The options weren’t great, with many revolving around the mighty colon. Or a semicolon, if you wanted to be flirty. But the only way to truly symbolize food through text was to straight-up talk about it. While there are a ton of varieties out there, there’s still a big food-related emoji that has never been made official. And now that a designer has added it themselves, it may very well be the only one you use.

Designer Jen Lewis, who’s based in Brooklyn, reportedly noted that there weren’t any emojis out there to signify a chef’s appreciation of a tasty dish. The action you probably know best as the “chef’s kiss.” It’s a kiss in the air that says, “Hey, that looks incredibly delicious.” It’s so well-known that you may have received chef’s kisses for other remarkable works. Simply put, everyone knows what it is.

While her series of chef’s kisses aren’t officially in the emoji package, they’re currently available as stickers. That means that iOS users can download the pack and use them in everyday text speak. Currently, they’re not available on an Android platform, which, bummer.

Lewis is living proof that if you notice something that needs to be made, you should go ahead and make it. Because it’s very likely that many other people out there will feel the same way. Her sticker set, which includes chef’s kissing in all ethnicities with many different hat choices, is currently #34 in the Eating & Drinking app category. It also has a 4.7 rating, meaning that her customers are pretty happy with it. One of her reviewers even commented on the set with a caption of “Changed my life.”

Along with “Chef’s kiss” is “Chef’s diss,” since let’s be real — chefs can’t love everything. If they did, the kiss would be meaningless!

In a future update, Lewis is trying hard to get Guy Fieri to resemble one of the chefs. That’s a high honor and something that needs to happen.

If you want to be part of the action, her sticker set only costs 99 cents. It’s a small price that’s more or less a thank you to Lewis for bringing such a great emoji into our lives.
