Now, typically we give our hardworking waiters and waitresses tips because we appreciate their service. Some of us tip because we used to work in the food industry, and we know how imperative those tips are to restaurant workers’ daily survival. (Most waiters earn less than $5 for their hourly wage before tips.) Heck, some of us tip because we just feel plain ole guilty and don’t want the people around us to know how stingy we are. One New York woman took a completely different approach to providing gratuity, though. She gave her waitress a $5,000 revenge tip.
Yes, you read that number right.
And before you start doing the math to calculate just how much food she could’ve eaten to owe that much money… The bill totaled about $60. Serina Wolfe was dining in a Florida restaurant when the situation occurred (because of course, this happened in Florida).
And Ryan, the Clear Sky Beachside Cafe waitress who received the ridiculously large amount of money, had no idea it was coming her way.
She assumed Wolfe was just extremely generous (and likely extremely rich).
And we don’t blame her; rich people at restaurants often leave huge tips. But Ryan, who recently put down her dog, had the complete, wrong assumption.
Wolfe apparently left the noteworthy tip to get back at her boyfriend, Michael Crane.
The wronged party (in this rare case, the boyfriend) told police that his paramour took his credit card
Purportedly, he refused to buy her a plane ticket. She may have also been inebriated. Few of us have resorted to measures this drastic while under the influence. But perhaps Wolfe just couldn’t deal with the idea that she might not be able to be flewed out.
She soon learned her lesson, though.
The revenge tipper first claimed to know nothing about the $5,000 charge’s origin, suggesting that it was a fraudulent purchase. And we can only imagine Ryan’s surprise when she heard about that. She most likely thought she hit the jackpot.
Fortunately (or unfortunately depending on who you ask), the Clear Sky establishment already deposited the amount before Wolfe’s fraud claim processed.
So there was no escaping the repercussions of her revenge tip.
And the authorities wasted no time at all. They charged the 24-year-old woman with grand theft and arrested her on July 1st, 2019. If someone pays Wolfe’s bond (which is at least $1000), she can go home to await trial. But we have a feeling certain people won’t be feeling too generous toward her.
What does the boyfriend have to say about this?
He thinks Wolfe just wanted to get back at him. But we have to ask, Why did Crane give her the credit card in the first place? Did she just lift the plastic right out of his pocket? Why did she even feel entitled to that much money?
People on Twitter certainly had some feelings about the whole situation.
And some people just sympathized with the boyfriend.
Best 5k he ever spent.

Always good to get out early
Maybe Wolfe just grew accustomed to lavish gifts, though. And who can blame her for that…
Literally, everyone can blame her. Not least of all Ryan, the waitress. Was she able to keep the money? She’s the one who really suffers here. We’re rooting for you, Ry!
