Game of Thrones: Dragon Queen’s Royal Breakfast

Make a breakfast fit for a queen with this Dragon Queen’s Royal Breakfast recipe! Inspired by Game of Thrones, this meal is a tribute to our favorite character Daenerys Targaryen. She deserves nothing less than this delicious meal of pan-fried quail and sweet, tart lemon cakes.

Dragon Queen’s Royal Breakfast

Difficulty: Easy • 3 Servings • Total Time: 65 Minutes (25 minute cook time)

Ingredients:

  • 12 logs of wood
  • 6 Quails 
  • 1 tbsp Paprika
  • ½ tbsp Garlic Powder
  • ½ tbsp Onion Powder
  • 1 tsp Chili Powder
  • 1 tbsp Coarse Salt
  • ½ tbsp Ground Coriander
  • 12 Quail Eggs

For Lemon Cakes

  • 3 lemons
  • 6 quail eggs
  • ¼ cup of Unsalted Butter (softened)
  • 3 cups of A.P. Flour (sifted)
  • 1 tbsp Baking Powder
  • 1 pinch Salt
  • ⅓ cup of Water
  • 2 cups Powdered Sugar

Final Plating

  • Wedge of Waxed Gouda
  • Grapes on the Vine
  • A Goblet of Wine
  • Fresh Mint
  • Crackers

Directions:

  1. Dig a square hole into the ground, about 6 inches deep or more. Make sure it’s wide enough to fit in several wood logs side by side.
  2. Place your wooden logs next to each other and light them, burning until there is no drastic open flame and the wood has begun to char (you should see black on the wood and glowing ember). It may get hot when handling it, but fear not: fire can’t burn a dragon.
  3. Slice the top and bottom of your lemons a ¼ inch off, so when you slice them in half, they can sit firmly when placed. Scoop the insides of your lemon halves into a bowl and set aside.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk your flour, baking powder and salt. Add your butter in small chunks and pour your water in, mixing the two together well. Add in your quail eggs and mix until all is fully combined. Add in 2 teaspoons of lemon juice from your bowl of scooped lemons and mix well. Pour your mixture into the lemon halves. Keep your lemon juice!
  5. Cook on a griddle on your coals, keeping them close to the coals. Open fire should be avoided to steer clear of any black charring on your lemons. Cook for 10 – 15 minutes.
  6. Clean and pat dry your Quails. Combine your spices together well and sprinkle and coat your Quail. Cook on a griddle on the coals for +- 12 minutes each side. The fat may cause some open flame from the coals but fear not, it will only make things prettier!
  7. In a container (either tempered glass or forged steel) with a safe handle, fill with water. Place your Quail eggs in the water gently. Place your container on the coals and scoop the ember around it. Once the water boils let it bubble for +- 15 seconds and then remove it from the heat. Keep the eggs in the hot water for NO MORE than 2 minutes, then remove from the heat.
  8. Take ¼ cup Lemon Juice from your bowl and mix together with your Powdered Sugar until runny but thick. Drizzle over your Lemon Tarts.
  9. Assemble your breakfast feast fit for royalty on a tray with some gorgeous final additions such as grapes, waxed Gouda cheese, crackers, wine and garnish your tarts with fresh mint.
