UPDATE (Thursday, February 28th, 2019 at 10:03 a.m. PST): According to Bustle, S’mores Oreos will be returning to grocery store shelves in Spring 2019. And yes, the packaging will be new and improved.
“There are too many Oreo flavors out there,” said no one ever. Yes, there are a lot — but there’ll never be too many. Especially because variety is the spice of life. Still, it’s always amazing when a once-limited flavor makes a comeback.
And when you hear what flavor it is, you’ll be surprised it was ever off the shelves to begin with.
Back in 2015, before Oreo started getting super crazy with new varieties, they introduced Oreo S’mores, which tasted like your favorite campfire treat. Biting into one was a less-messy way to get the flavor. The cookies were graham cracker flavor, and the cookie as a whole included hints of marshmallow and (of course) chocolate.
They continued to use the graham cookie in other varieties, but it was truly at its best with the S’mores.
Then, they disappeared and hearts everywhere were broken, because you’re always in the mood for S’mores. It’s probably why the Girl Scouts started offering a similar flavor just a couple years ago (which are fantastic, might I add).
Noted food-Instagrammer The Junk Food Aisle was the one who announced that Oreo was bringing the flavor back, and they’re a pretty trustworthy source.
They also noted that while the cookie itself was similar, the package got a fresh 2019 re-design.
#Fresh is right.
“S’mores Oreo is coming back in 2019! Last spotted in 2016, S’mores Oreo features a Graham flavored cookie and layered Marshmallow and Chocolate flavor cremes,” they wrote.
Oreo fans were hoping they’d make a comeback for quite some time.

Some people even made them at home, giving them the name Oreo should have gone with at the very beginning.

We completely support the following statement. Oreo, what were you thinking?
Just know that when they’re back in your hands, you can technically call them whatever you want.
If you missed the S’mores flavor when it initially came out years ago, here’s what it looks like.
That chocolate AND vanilla creme filling is calling our names.

Just by looking at it, you can imagine what it tastes like.
Of course, it’s possible that Oreo was inspired to bring them back based solely on the amount of people who used Oreos to make their own s’mores at home. Seriously — it’s a lot more common than you think.
And if you don’t have a campfire out back, the microwave is a perfect substitute.
Also, nothing compares to a freshly toasted marshmallow fresh from the fire.
