My family wasn’t big on sugary cereals — for all the right reasons. But that didn’t mean a girl couldn’t dream. How lucky all of those other kids must have been to be able to literally eat marshmallows for breakfast, while I angrily ate toast, or the healthy cereal that is Basic 4. After a few years passed, I was finally able to find out why those cartoon kids were so adamant on chasing around that frisky leprechaun. The cereal really lived up to the hype. So, hearing that Lucky Charms is changing their signature recipe is a little alarming, I’m not going to lie.
But, here’s the good news — it’s just for a limited-edition cereal. If it’s popular enough, who knows? Maybe it’ll stick around. It appears as though the marshmallows aren’t affected, which is the greatest relief. Instead, General Mills chose to revamp the oaty bits, otherwise known as the “other part.” Let me be honest here — yes, the marshmallows are the stars. But the oats seriously aren’t as bad as I was once lead to believe as a kid.
Still, it makes sense as to why General Mills would want to mix things up. The new version is fruitier than the original, which may put the Trix rabbit and Toucan Sam on high alert. That’s their territory, after all.
It’s called Fruity Lucky Charms, and it’s very pink.
“We’re bowled over with excitement to introduce Fruity Lucky Charms!” their official Instagram claims. “Grab a box of it in early 2019!”
CerealTimeTV showcased a slightly different sample box on their Instagram account. They feel like it may be similar to the limited-edition Berry Lucky Charms that came out back in 2006.
General Mills is also releasing two other different kinds of cereal at the start of 2019 — Cinnamon Toast Crunch Churros and Chocolate Cinnamon Toast Crunch. All three sound a little too good to be true.

But, not everyone is a fan. Especially people who don’t believe that cereal is a great or nutritious choice for breakfast.

According to Delish, the new Lucky Charms are available in select stores now, but will be more or less at every major grocery retailer by the start of the new year. In the meantime, you can just pour yourself a bowl or five of the original, which is just as magically delicious as you remember.
So, even if you lost a little bit of trust in Lucky Charms after learning they were changing things up, at least you know their standard version will only experiment with their marshmallow shapes on occasion. And hey, that’s fine by me.
