Oreo’s New Flavor Is One You’ll Probably Want To Take Apart

When Peeps came out with their Pancakes and Syrup Peeps, I was a little hesitant. It’s a bold flavor, and one that many other snack foods had yet to conquer. Would it just be a mountain of sweetness? Or would the butter flavor take over? Luckily, they figured the mix out perfectly. But now, it’s Oreo’s turn.

Oreo announced the arrival of a new flavor for this year, and it seems perfect for syrup lovers — and likely a nightmare for syrup haters. Listen — I love pancakes and syrup, but the second that syrup manages to hit my sausage or eggs? No thank you. Just thinking about it sends shivers down my spine.

The flavor was initially announced back in May, but it’s finally time for its grand arrival to grocery stores nationwide. According to Delish, original plans for the Maple Syrup Oreo would have it on shelves in August. And since August is officially here, you might want to start looking out for it now.

Some people, like Instagrammer JunkBanter, were able to score some Maple Creme Oreos a few weeks ago. That’s good news, because it means you can get an early look from a legitimate pro. Aren’t junk food-related Instagram accounts seriously the best?

“Call me crazy but I’m sure we’re not too far away from a Maple Bacon or Chicken & Waffles Oreo,” they wrote. Hey, Lays made a Chicken & Waffles chip once, so the flavor isn’t impossible.

For some people, maple is more of a fall flavor than pumpkin spice. You may not be as big of a believer based on the success of the Pumpkin Spice Latte at Starbucks, but people have done the research.

Cooking Light said last year that pumpkin spice interest was falling, and predicted that maple would eventually take over. It seems like Oreo got the memo.

That means that maple haters (or at least, maple-touching-breakfast-meat haters like myself) may need to get used to the maple uprise. Especially if you like a good cocktail.

Because — that’s right — maple syrup cocktails are also a new thing. Food & Wine illustrated seven of the most popular maple combinations this June.

Ever hear of an Apple Sour? Or a Lumberjack Julep? You might not be successful ordering them at the bar just yet, but they’re real drinks that focus around the greatness of maple syrup.

So, what’s special about this Oreo? For one, it definitely looks creamy.

While not tasting it myself, I’m guessing the maple taste won’t be as in-your-face intense, much like the Peep. Instead, this might just be the perfect cookie to accompany a nice cup of decaf coffee at night.

Fans of maple syrup are already excited about the new arrival. For some, it may be their entry back into the world of Oreos.

This isn’t the first time that Oreo has made a syrup-related product. Back in 2017, they released a Waffles and Syrup Oreo that came with just one catch.

That catch being, they were only available at Albertsons. So, a lot of people didn’t get a chance to try them.

Regardless of any hesitation, they must have passed some sort of test. If not, they probably would have completely nixed the plans for a Maple Creme variety.

No matter what, the release of this Oreo is a big reminder that the end of the year is coming. It seems like this might be one of the last big Oreo releases until the winter holidays.

Then, who knows what 2020 might bring? Oreo has never been afraid to push the limits.

Like other limited release flavors, you might want to stockpile on these if you’re a maple syrup fan. Who knows if they’ll make a comeback next fall?
