McDonald’s Is Going To Start Selling Muffin Tops, And We Don’t Care If They Give Us A…Muffin Top

One of the reasons why Seinfeld was so popular? It was super relatable. And McDonald’s must think so, too, since they found inspiration in one of the most memorable Seinfeld episodes. They’re going into the muffin top business, since — as the show pointed out — it really is the best part of the muffin.

The eighth season episode features Elaine Benes’s ex-boss stealing her award-winning idea by opening up a shop called “Top of the Muffin to You!”, which only sold the muffin tops and not the muffin stumps. While his business wasn’t as much of a success, it’s been over 20 years since the episode first aired. So hopefully, McDonald’s had time to work out the kinks of their business model. One thing hasn’t changed since then, and it’s the fact that muffin stumps still aren’t appealing. Or at least, the most appealing part of the muffin.

The muffin tops are just one part of breakfast that McDonald’s is hoping to rejuvenate. In an email to CBS News, a spokesperson for the company said that fast food fans should “expect to see an elevated McCafé experience in our modernized U.S. restaurants – delicious menu items like muffin toppers, coffee cakes, apple pies with lattice crusts that are baked in-restaurant.”

CBS News also noted that McDonald’s “Muffin Toppers” have been tested out in Indiana, where three flavors were offered —blueberry, lemon poppy seed, and double chocolate.

The calorie count per topper varied between 140 and 160 calories. But it might be hard to stop yourself at just one.

Hopefully Julia Louis-Dreyfus gets a chance to try one out. She’d probably be ecstatic that such a big company like McDonald’s agreed with her character’s ambitious vision.
