Ever notice how there’s always a line outside of Chick-Fil-A? No matter what time of day it is (aside from Sunday, of course), cars are lined up. And obviously, someone at McDonald’s took note. They’re currently testing a chicken sandwich, and if all goes well, who knows? Maybe we’ll all start going to McDonald’s if we get an itch for chicken.
Now, Chick-Fil-A doesn’t necessarily own the rights to the chicken sandwich. But everyone knows their version is pretty top-notch. According to Delish, the new McDonald’s sandwich — which is currently only available in Washington, as it’s being tested — looks a heck of a lot like the sandwich that helped put Chick-Fil-A on the map.
It’s officially called the Ultimate Chicken Sandwich. They’re also serving up Ultimate Chicken Tenders at approximately 160 very lucky locations.
“Our focus on menu innovation is essential as we continue to evolve and build a better McDonald’s,” said Linda VanGosen, McDonald’s vice president of menu innovation, in a McDonald’s press release. “Our made-to-order Ultimate Chicken Sandwich and Ultimate Chicken Tenders reflect McDonald’s commitment to respond to customers’ desires for more chicken offerings, higher quality, and distinct, delicious flavors.”
Here’s where things might get confusing — Sonic has an Ultimate Chicken Sandwich that’s been on their menu since at least 2015. So if the McDonald’s version goes nationwide, and a buddy asks you to grab an Ultimate Chicken Sandwich, you may need to verify which fast food restaurant you’re actually going to.
The news gets even better. Delish reports that they’re also trying out Sweet N’ Spicy Honey BBQ Glazed Chicken Tenders, in case you need some extra spice in your life. Hopefully, at least one of these yummy chicken menu items makes its way out of Washington. The whole country would love to see how McDonald’s plans to win poultry lovers over.
