What Meghan Markle Ate This Week Sounds Like It Could Easily Make A Pregnant Woman Sick

Ah, the joys of pregnancy. Many women find out early on how incredible it is to suddenly be repulsed by smells and certain foods. Oftentimes, they also crave items that would repulse everyone else in the room. Pregnancy is more or less like a diet you never expected to be on. Even better, every pregnancy is different, so it’s tough to know what you’ll endure. Meghan Markle, who’s currently pregnant with her first child with Prince Harry, might have felt a tad bit nauseous after eating the lunch served up at Sandringham Estate this year for one key reason.

No, it’s not because of pregnancy symptoms. But it’s because it just seems like an odd — and dare I say, kind of bland — pairing. Now, I know that anything served by the Queen or to any member of the royal family is probably much better than it sounds, but People reports that Markle and the gang ate roasted turkey and steamed fruit pudding for their Christmas lunch. Which, okay.

Even though steamed fruit pudding might not sound like the dessert you’d be most excited about (because cookies exist), it’s actually a British tradition, according to Christina’s Cucina. She states that it’s steamed to both cook and reheat it, but doused with brandy before served. Even though the dessert was likely okay — as alcohol is often cooked out of dishes when used — it’s possible that Markle might have opted out of it for this reason.

The lunch was reportedly enjoyed right before the Queen’s annual speech, which the family watched on television.

So, sure — roast turkey isn’t the most exciting dish, but at least it wasn’t anything that might have made Markle’s stomach act up (as long as it was cooked properly, which we’re sure it was).

It’s always a gamble as to whether or not spicy food will react well with pregnancy, which must be a bummer for the Duchess of Sussex. If you don’t know by this point, Markle is quite the foodie. Not only does she cook herself, but she also recently supported a community cookbook that had proceeds go to charity.

In that cookbook, she also wanted to express how she felt that people can truly heal through cooking and food.

Keep in mind, the Christmas lunch menu wasn’t all too different from the famous dinner in which Prince Harry proposed to her. Instead of a roast turkey, Prince Harry reportedly got down on one knee in the midst of eating a roast chicken.

But, back to that traditional steamed pudding. If you’re not in the U.K., you might just assume pudding is only served in disposable cups at the grocery store, if not on a tiny plate at the diner. Here’s what the dessert looks like:

So, perhaps not the most stunning dessert, but it’s still tasty and part of the whole holiday. It might have been strange had it not been served at lunch.

Hopefully, the combination of the two was fine for Markle. She reportedly told a fan that there wasn’t too much time left to go in the pregnancy, meaning that she may be closer to giving birth than all of us originally thought.

Speaking of dessert…

But, she may have been throwing people off track for a little bit of privacy. That, or maybe it’s all just a dream that these last few months will speed by. Meghan Markle is surely looking forward to indulging in all of her favorites again after giving birth, and in all honesty, she deserves a hearty glass of wine after so many months of restricted eating.
