Meghan Markle Isn’t Allowed To Eat Her Fave Foods Now That She’s Pregnant, And That Sucks

Pregnancy is a very scary time in a woman’s life. Yes, it’s beautiful. Yes, it’ll make you re-think everything you thought you knew about your body and its capabilities. But there’s so much pressure to do everything right. That means there are certain foods you’ll want to avoid for the safety of your baby. Fans thought it was tough enough for Meghan Markle to stay away from foods at the request of the queen when she married into the royal family. Now that she’s pregnant, the list is even longer.

The pregnancy timeline is quite a funny one. Sometimes, it takes you a while to even know you’re pregnant — but when that positive pregnancy test line appears, you start to get scared over that glass of wine you had three days prior. Women need to do the best they can to take care of themselves when they know for sure that motherhood is upon them. Without a doubt, Meghan Markle is pretty well-versed on what her diet should include these days — and what’s off limits.

Looking back, it seems like a lot of the food she’s praised in the past falls under that category. The most obvious one? Wine. Specifically, red wine.

Markle is such a wine fan that she actually named her old lifestyle blog after one of her favorite kinds. Called The Tig, after Tignanello (wine), it’s something that she has to avoid for obvious reasons. Even though some doctors state that an occasional glass is okay, the common theory is that all alcohol should be avoided during pregnancy.

The other food that’ll be hard for Markle to give up is sushi.

In interviews, the foodie has often praised the dish for reminding her of California. “Acai bowls, green juices, chopped salads, perfect sushi, grilled fish tacos….those are all things that make me think of home,” she said to the website eyeswoon.

So, what’s the big deal with sushi?  Well, many types of sushi include raw fish. Even though fish is a healthy choice for a pregnant woman (with canned tuna and certain other fish being eaten in moderation). “There are risks to pregnant women due to certain bacteria and increased exposure to mercury,” states the American Pregnancy Association. “But, women also need to remember that not all sushi is uncooked.” If you want to suddenly get daring with raw beef or other raw meat, pregnancy is also a bad time to do that.

Still, it may be good for Markle to avoid altogether. It’s unfortunate, but even one photo of her eating misleading sushi might bring about some questions.

While those are the two biggies, Markle will be wanting to read the label on everything. She can’t eat cheese that isn’t pasteurized, and even deli meat has its risks. The good news is that not only is Markle a smart cookie in the kitchen,  but she’s got a staff to help make sure her pregnancy is as safe and rewarding as possible.
