Melissa McCarthy Smuggled 40 Ham Sandwiches Into The Golden Globes And We Can’t Stop Applauding

Melissa McCarthy ham sandwiches

The Golden Globes is one of Hollywood’s most prestigious and glamorous events of the year. However, the awards show has one fatal flaw — dinner is served too early. To avoid the sound of cutlery on plates during the televised event, the Globes dinner is usually served before the stars are seated, meaning many are left hungry. Melissa McCarthy wanted to right that wrong. The celeb smuggled 30 to 40 ham sandwiches into the event and has become the hero Hollywood never knew it needed.

“I’ve been handing them out to everyone,” McCarthy, who handed out the sandwiches with the help of her husband, Ben Falcone, told Variety on January 6th. “Next year, I’m bringing hot dogs.”

Fellow actress Jessica Chastain asked the publication, “How did she get them in here? But it’s a good idea because by the time you get into the ballroom dinner has already been served, and you’re always so hungry.” And The Favourite’s Olivia Coleman gave a shoutout to the undercover sandwich smuggler during her acceptance speech for the best actress in a comedy or musical film.

“These are the sandwiches that Mooch smuggled into the Golden Globes,” Falcone captioned an Instagram pic of the contraband (being kept cold with an ice pack). “We brought 40, left with 2. We left with some happy customers.”

Not all heroes wear capes. Some wear a bedazzled purple dress from Reem Acra for 11 Honoré.

Thanks to her ham sandwich heroism, McCarthy has set some serious standards for 2019 and beyond.

A queen indeed!

*Raises hand*

Yes. Yes, she did.

It’s unclear how McCarthy, who was nominated for best actress in a drama for her role in Can You Ever Forgive Me?, actually snuck the sandwiches into the event. She wasn’t pictured with the tote at all during the evening. Did her choice of dress allude to her having some sort of magical powers?

She may not have taken home a Golden Globe, but McCarthy definitely won a lot of fellow celebs’ hearts.
