When it comes to weird food combinations, we’ve all got a few faves. It could be a strange combo you created in high school, or maybe something you grew up with that was only deemed “weird” after someone else told you it was. But the fascinating thing about food combinations is that sometimes, the oddest foods end up complementing each other. And you can never tell until you experiment for yourself.
Actress and singer Adrienne Bailon Houghton revealed one of her strange combinations through YouTube, and fans are still in disbelief. Not only because it’s something that’s weirdly mixed, but then there’s an additional second step of perceived grossness that just seems unreal.
Ready for it? Brace yourself. Houghton makes tuna fish salad and mixes it with fruit punch. That’s a little weird. But then she makes a sandwich out of it and actually dips that sandwich into a glass of fruit punch. Even weirder.
“I’ve been told that I make the most incredible tuna fish salad. Like you guys don’t even understand,” she said in an episode of her YouTube show All Things Adrienne. “My tuna fish does not taste fishy, number one, and number two, it’s got mad flavor.”
[fm_youtube url="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HagIWj6EyHU"]Houghton said she invented the combination after she was looking to make an after school snack. But, something was missing from her standard tuna salad, and she realized that fruit punch kicked it up a notch. Okay.
Watching Adrienne Bailon dip a tuna fish sandwich into fruit punch is not what I needed today.

Fruit punch with tuna fish? I’ll never eat again.

In the video, Houghton uses a liberal amount of fruit punch in the mix. But when she dips it in the glass, the whole thing just takes on an uncomfortable shade of red.
Houghton may not have had the same kind of money back then as she does today, but that shouldn’t be an excuse for making such an awful combination. Especially since there are plenty of spices other than salt and pepper than can wake that tuna right up.
I have never, and will never be high enough to mix tuna fish and fruit punch. No wonder Raven left the Cheetah Girls 😂

As a former member of The Cheetah Girls, which aired on Disney, Houghton still has a lot of impressionable fans. But nobody is willing to give this weird combination the time of day — probably because it didn’t even look all that appetizing in her video.
I still can’t get over the fact that Adrienne Bailon really dipped a tuna fish sandwich into some fruit punch like it was chips & dip..

In comparison, most of her other videos get somewhere around 300,000 views. Which is still wonderful, but nowhere near as impressive. Maybe this was her plan to gain subscribers all along.
Sure, she’s getting a lot of judgment. But for some, it’s just the lighthearted (if not disgusting) news they needed this year.
Watching @AdrienneBailon dip her tuna fish sandwich in fruit punch has been my favorite part of 2019 so far 😂

But, keep this in mind. It may seem gross now, but it’s symbolic of a certain timeframe in Houghton’s life. So, by eating it, she may be reliving her childhood a little bit — and in doing so, it probably makes the sandwich taste a lot better.

Cheetah Girl Number 2 really dipped a whole tuna fish sandwich in some fruit punch AND ate it. @AdrienneBailon!! You got money ma you ain’t gotta do all that. https://t.co/g871anXzev
She also made a point in saying that even though what she did isn’t necessarily “cool,” she still had no problems doing it anyway. And that’s something you’ve got to respect — she really set herself up for online ridicule in sharing a piece of herself with the world.
Sometimes being authentically who you are isn’t “cool”. Do it anyway.

But if you’re inspired to grab some tuna for lunch today and are looking for some other combos, here are some good ideas that aren’t bright red. Like, how about avocado?
Or, maybe your tuna is better paired with some cheese and crackers. (What isn’t better with cheese?)
The most important thing is that Houghton is happy. If tuna fish and fruit punch sales manage to go up in the near future, or if you happen to see a buddy experiment with a sandwich this way, you can likely credit her.
