Bindi Irwin, daughter of the late Steve Irwin, celebrated her 21st birthday this week by chowing down on the most appropriate cake ever: A cake shaped like a bumblebee.
Now, in terms of things we never, ever would want in or around our mouths, bumblebees take the cake — see what we did there? — but a bumble bee-shaped cake? Yes, please. One question: Is the icing lemon? Because, yes please.
Bindi’s bee cake makes sense for her. Bindi, like her amazing father before her, is an animal enthusiast. According to Animal Planet, Bindi is a wildlife conservationist whose love for wild places and animals comes directly from her parents.
No wonder she’s not running and screaming from a monster who wants to sting you right in the eyeball. But we digress…
Bindi, like her parents, grew up in Australia and basically lived at the zoo, which is where she got comfortable with all of the animals. Apparently, the echidnas are her very favorites — and if you’re curious what an “echidna” is, these cuties look like this:
Bindi also starred in The Crocodile Hunter and hosted Bindi: The Jungle Girl, a children’s television nature documentary series. Her message: Wildlife is important — and we should treat it with love and respect.
Bindi also works with Wildlife Warriors, an incredible conservationist organization founded by her parents. According to the organization, it is dedicated to dozens of projects for several animals: “Through funding, education, research and a whole lot of hard work and dedication, our Wildlife Warriors are fighting to protect wildlife and wild places around the world for generations to come.”
