M&M’s Just Announced A New Flavor, And It Reminds Us Of Breakfast

Now, don’t be alarmed — but fall is starting to creep up. Have no fear, there’s still a lot of summer to enjoy. It’s just that you’ll start seeing a lot of long sleeves, school supplies, and pumpkin flavors at Target pretty soon.

M&M’s just announced their latest fall flavor, and thankfully, it sounds like they’re staying away from the pumpkin craze. (That is, for now. You can’t forget that they released a white pumpkin pie M&M back in 2017.) Instead, M&M’s will focus more on what they’re known for — chocolate.

Just in time for Halloween, you can get your hands on Creepy Cocoa Crisp M&M’s. Of course, that only reminds the world of Cocoa Krispies cereal, which is highly underrated (and part of a healthy breakfast.) Seriously — why is there so much focus on Rice Krispies when Cocoa Krispies exist? It’s almost a relief that M&M’s took notice.

Of course, the “creepy” aspect makes them perfect for Halloween. But if you choose to keep these for yourselves and give the trick-or-treaters a standard, non-limited edition candy, that’s probably okay.

Like many new snacks and treats, these were accidentally found. Bustle reports that Instagram account mnmtwinz, which focuses on junk food, was one of the first to find them in stores. But even their Instagram claims that most Target locations may not have them out for sale just yet.

These will be an instant hit with both dark chocolate and milk chocolate fans. According to the packaging, they have a “crisp cocoa center with a layer of dark chocolate.”

“For chocolate lovers such as ourselves, this easily beats many m&m flavors out right now (although peanut butter m&m’s will remain our top favorite),” the mnmtwinz state. “The dark chocolate is rich and a little bitter as dark chocolate should be, and the cocoa crisp is satisfying.”

So, what do you do if you can’t wait for these? Well, you can ask a Target employee if their location has gotten them in yet.

If you’re too shy, you could always grab a box of Cocoa Krispies and standard M&M’s. With a little bit of imagination and experimentation, you may be able to create the same taste sensation.

Or, you can wait patiently. Which is, admittingly, the hardest choice of the three.

One of the bad things about this flavor? It’s really versatile.

It’s kind of like a standard M&M, a dark chocolate M&M, and a crispy M&M became one. Even though peanut butter M&M’s are my personal favorite, crispy is a solid runner up.

In comparison to flavors like white pumpkin pie, a crunchy chocolate M&M is something you’ll want all year long. So, maybe it was a mistake to just release this one for Halloween.

As far as other Halloween candy does, there’s not a lot of word regarding what to expect. But, plenty of candy companies use the holiday to unleash spooky and delicious surprises, so perhaps those announcements are just around the corner.

But don’t be alarmed. It seems as if one Target possibly jumped the gun on putting the Creepy Cocoa Crisp M&M’s out on shelves. Other locations likely still have pool floats and bright plastic drinkware in their seasonal aisles.

But, from the look of it, plenty of other retailers are all about saying sayonara to summer. As of now, it’s unclear as to whether or not this flavor will be available outside of Target. It’s worth looking for, since it might break into the top 5 of the most popular M&M flavors.

Will Gordon over at Deadspin rated the standard M&M in 10th place and gave his top three spots to M&M’s that included peanuts. It might not be a popular opinion, but at least he was honest.

Spoon University had a different opinion, ranking the OG M&M in the top spot. It’s often hard to beat a classic.

With the news of Creepy Cocoa Crisp, these sites might want to redo their rankings. But then again, it might be difficult — M&M’s are always coming out with new flavors.

Getting your hands on these Creepy Cocoa Crisp M&M’s may be a top priority. You were probably heading to Target anyway, so you might as well check and see if your store is one of the lucky few that are selling these M&M’s early.
