There are many great things about Costco: the fact that you can buy your favorite snacks in bulk, the way they always have someone standing around handing out samples so that you don’t get too hungry while doing your shopping, and, of course, the discounted prices. A great thing about the store is that they have their own house brand, Kirkland Signature, which rivals similar name brands with a great taste and lower prices. One of their most recent items has caught our attention big time. Costco just created its own version of the cult-favorite flavored sparkling water, La Croix. La Croix, you better watch your back!
The Costco Connoisseur, a blog and Instagram page devoted to finding the best Costco products all over the world, made this discovery recently, and we couldn’t ignore it. Costco apparently has their own version of La Croix, and they’ve just added some new flavors to the mix.
Kirkland’s sparkling water isn’t exactly new — it’s already been around in fun flavors like black raspberry, orange mango, and kiwi strawberry — but they’ve just added three new flavors that are making us do a double take. These are lemon, lime, and grapefruit. If you know anything about La Croix, then you know that these are three of their most popular flavors. So, yeah, this doesn’t seem like it was just a coincidence.
Earlier this week, The Costco Connoisseur posted a photo of the new flavors, comparing them to La Croix. They look remarkably similar:
A few days ago, the Instagram account had revealed the details on the new sparkling water in a post, saying, “Look out La Croix — Costco is coming for you! 😲 New Kirkland Signature Sparkling Water flavored with lime, lemon or grapefruit essence, at just $7.49 for a 32-pk makes each can $.23! That’s a 33% savings compared to the regularly priced La Croix 24-pk, or a 15% savings when compared to the La Croix sale price at Costco.”
Now the only question that remains is this: How does the Costco version taste? The Costco Connoisseur tested the flavors and revealed their thoughts in a blog post, saying, “In a side by side taste test I found both the KS lemon sparkling water and lime sparkling water tasted exactly the same respectively as the La Croix lemon and lime sparkling waters. While the KS grapefruit had a familiar hint of grapefruit taste, it was a slightly different grapefruit flavor than what I was used to from the La Croix pamplemousse sparkling water — not bad mind you, just different.”
They added that the biggest difference was the bubbles in the drink, saying that the Kirkland sparkling waters had “more carbonation” than La Croix.
So which one is better? It’s probably going to come down to a personal preference. Regardless, you have to thank Costco for offering a product similar to La Croix for such a great price.
We learned a lot by browsing The Costco Connoisseur, like the fact that Costco used to have a self-scanner, but it was short lived (we can only imagine why), and that if you check back often, you’ll find some great deals the blogger spotted (pool noodles were marked down to $12.97 last month, for instance). Bookmark it now, and your wallet will thank you later.
