M&M’s New Easter Flavor Is One You’ll Either Crave Or Trash

Doesn’t it seem like our favorite candies and snacks are getting more and more experimental? First, Oreo surprises us with flavors like carrot cake, which seem appropriate for Easter (because surely the Easter Bunny is fond of them). And now, M&M’s is also trying something totally out of character — for their Easter M&M’s, no less.

It was just announced that their Easter flavor will be white chocolate marshmallow, which has me guessing. An Instagram account called mnmtwinz was one of the first to post about it. The account, run by identical twins named Marcus and Matthew, points out fun new snacks, going so far as to even stage a photoshoot over their delicious findings.

So not only will following the account increase your appetite, but it may make you a little more knowledgeable on food photography — a hidden bonus.

The M&M’s come in a pastel blue, white, and orange. The colors are more muted than on your standard M&M’s.

The account states that the M&M’s are making a quiet entrance. “White Chocolate Marshmallow M&M’s are silently hopping onto shelves soon!” they wrote. “While working at Target last night, boxes of these came off the truck out of nowhere. Said ‘Display immediately’ on the box, but the Valentine’s aisles aren’t quite cleared yet, so it’s only a matter of time before these begin being stocked.”

It’s interesting that M&M’s didn’t seem to promote them very much. But since they include marshmallow, maybe they thought that’d be enough to have them sell.

Marshmallows are best known for being the ultimate hot chocolate topper, but they’re good all season long. That might be why it’s surprising that in this instance, they’re being paired up with white chocolate.

But oddly enough, that didn’t even seem to matter. Marcus and Matthew state that you can barely even taste the marshmallow flavor in these.

“The white chocolate is definitely the most prominent flavor you taste here; with the slightest hint of marshmallow. In fact, if we were trying these blindfolded, we would guess white chocolate way before guessing marshmallow was also in it,” they wrote.

But those actually already exist.

And according to fans, they’re absolutely amazing. Sure, they look like standard M&M’s on the outside, but the inside is where you get the real surprise.

It’d be interesting to try these next to the new white chocolate marshmallow flavor, since perhaps the marshmallow flavor will pop out even more in the comparison. Still, it’s a good holiday find for people who dig white chocolate.

Plus, white chocolate with marshmallows has been an award-winning combo before. They pair perfectly for cake pops.

So, why not M&M’s? They’ve released a bunch of flavors in the past that are far more questionable than this one. For example, while the world loves PSLs, they might not be as fond of PSM&M’s.

Even the M&M’s character on the package seems to be a little unsure about it. At least the one on the Strawberry Nut package seems a bit more certain about what he’s representing, even though strawberry isn’t a standard M&M’s flavor.

Keep in mind, marshmallow fans — the white chocolate marshmallow M&M’s aren’t the first ones of its kind to hit the stores. Yes, the flavor is new — but, M&M’s released a hot chocolate flavor that utilized a marshmallowy inside this past November.

Those seemed to get a bit of a mixed review. As will the new white chocolate marshmallow, if we’re being honest. For some, it’s a flavor that M&M’s shouldn’t mess with.

In all honesty, since regular M&M’s and Peanut M&M’s are still so delicious, it’s hard to see why the company would keep trying these daring combinations. But, it does make a little sense. Everyone knows what standard M&M’s taste like, but not many people know what a crazy flavor like carrot cake or hot cocoa would taste like. So, they’re perfect for impulse buys.

As of right now, it’s not totally clear if the new flavor will only live at Target. But at least you know that’s where you’re bound to find then the second the aisles are filled with Easter accessories.

It’s also unclear how long these M&M’s will be available. According to the packaging, it doesn’t seem like they’re limited-edition.

Still, you know how these things go. Buy a bag, and then buy ten more if you love them. Because after the Easter holiday ends, these might end up being a rarity
