The Hershey Bar Just Changed For The First Time In 125 Years

There’s something very pure about the standard Hershey chocolate bar. It doesn’t include nuts, or marshmallows, or even peanut butter. It’s just milk chocolate presented in shareable squares. Even though it’s iconic, the folks over at Hershey felt like maybe it was time for a slight redesign. And what they came up with is almost shocking.

You might not believe it, but it’s been 125 years since the Hershey bar has changed. So, this is definitely big news. It seems as if the redesign will only be around for the summer, so you might want to get your hands on a bar — especially if it takes another 125 years for them to do this again.

Instead of their company name, the Hershey bar will now feature some of the most popular emojis on its squares. That means that, yes — you can finally use chocolate as a method of communication.

There will be 25 emojis represented in total, from the peace sign to the heart eyes. Even though it might be hard to collect each piece (unless you do so in a refrigerated atmosphere), it’ll still be fun to see if you can catch them all.

And just so you know, yes. Your ultimate fave emoji, poop, is included.

It would have been a great honor to have been on the committee to figure out which 25 made the cut. But trust me, they made pretty good calls.

The fact that there is chocolate involved means it’s already a win. Having cute emoji faces in every bar is just an added bonus.

Hershey’s made the big announcement on Instagram and Twitter on May 14th, and people are all about the change. What’s not to like?

In a way, this makes your chocolate bar more interactive. And you’ll be more likely to share with a friend, which is bound to make their day.

They seemed to also do a great job making sure their emojis look like the real deal. Since people use them so much in texts, it’d be pretty obvious if they were a little off.

Then again, who are we kidding? This is Hershey we’re talking about. If they can’t get it right, nobody can.

Chocolate emojis aren’t necessarily a new concept. Home bakers have been all about adding the fun faces to cakes and cookies.

A company called Ludwig’s actually makes Chocomoticons, which is a mouthful to say, but they look pretty delicious. Unfortunately, it looks like they might only be available in Germany.

Amelia’s Chocolate also created something similar. In other news — there’s actually a World Emoji Day? Huh.

Chocolate molds have also been invented to help you make chocolate emojis at home. These are almost too cute to eat.

And of course, they’re perfect when you want to design a cake. This chocolate birthday cake says so much.

These have Santa hats. With emojis, it’s so easy to make them seasonal.

And baking some for a party is a great idea. Everyone can choose which snack to take based on their own individual mood.

So far, there haven’t been too many negative opinions about Hershey’s big news. It seems like people have openly accepted emojis as a part of our society (and our chocolate) today.

Interested in collecting them all? There are reportedly six different packaging designs, meaning that every Hershey’s chocolate bar you get will be a surprise. It’s almost like a slightly less exciting version of Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory.

Make sure you keep an eye out for the new bar once summer hits.
