People seem to either love or hate mayonnaise. For some, there’s nothing better than a summer potato salad that’s loaded with mayo, or even a turkey and cheese sandwich with mayo and a slice of tomato or two. Others are a little less fond of the stuff, probably because of its thick consistency. Though everyone has different taste, it’s safe to say that most agree that mayo has its place in the world. And it’s probably not in the freezer as mayo ice cream.
A small ice cream shop in Scotland is making the news for offering mayonnaise as an ice cream flavor, and it’s understandable as to why people are upset. The shop is called Ice and it’s located in Falkirk. According to their website, they love offering a “truly unique range of artisan ice cream” flavors. Since they already specialize in an ice cream that’s weird (at least, I have yet to see another shop create a green ice cream that’s modeled after the Monster Energy Drink), perhaps mayo ice cream wasn’t all that much of a stretch.
For the record, no — it’s not April 1st. But the photo they posted on Instagram regarding the mayo ice cream looks like the perfect April Fool’s Day prank. Just take a look and try not to gag:
Comments varied from the laugh-cry emoji, to disgust, to “I’m sick,” to “I’d dip a chip in that.” One commenter by the handle of linny70 noted that “I thought it was #justwrongonsomanylevels but then I tried it!!! It’s actually really nice, creamy and rich,” which is a pretty solid review. Also, a good reminder to not knock something before you’ve tried it.
The outrage was so crazy that the creators appeared on Today, according to the company’s Facebook page, where they talked about their ice cream a little more. Even Miracle Whip, the known nemesis of mayo, had something to say about the creation.
Mayo ice cream??? Ridiculous.

Mayo has yet to officially make an appearance on Ice’s official Desserts page, meaning it might not be a permanent addition to the menu. But if you’re in the area, it’s worth a shot. There are plenty of other delicious flavors, like Cookie Dough, Malteser, and Nutella, for all of the non-believers in your squad.
If you’re into ice (but maybe not into mayo ice cream), we have plenty of ice cream ideas you can try this summer.
Pass a cone, please!
