Oreo Is Coming Out With A New Flavor, And Yes, You Should Be Suspicious

It’s been amazing to see what Oreo has been up to in recent years. I mean, they created a music system that allows an Oreo to play music. That’s almost as innovative as their Carrot Cake Oreo, which — let’s be honest — people assumed would be a massive fail. (For the record, it actually gained quite a following.) But, Oreo just announced some news that’s bound to leave cookie fans worried.

That’s because they’re unleashing a product that they’ve tried once before. And it was a rare Oreo fail.

BestProducts talked with an Oreo spokesperson who confirmed that Mystery Oreos were coming back this year in an all-new flavor. Now, as far as food mysteries go, two past products come to mind.

One is the “mystery” flavor of Dum Dums. They may not be America’s favorite lollipop, but they’re good enough. Years ago, I learned that this flavor was more or less the combination of flavors used for other pops. So, say they were creating Root Beer. Next in the line would be Cream Soda. Ordinarily, in factories, the machine would be cleaned before batches were made.

Well, not for the mystery flavor. In Dum Dums logic, “mystery” is a combination of that root beer and cream soda mix.

Second up are my favorite candy of all time, which just so happened to be discontinued a few years ago — Ghost Dots. Remember them?

Even though they had the same flavors of original dots, they were spooky and light green. Perhaps the coolest Dot color of all. If anyone wanted to bring them back, that’d make every single Halloween even better for me.

But, I digress. In short, “mystery” usually doesn’t mean that something’s terrible. Usually, it’s just quirky.

Sadly, that wasn’t the reaction towards the original batch of Mystery Oreos that came out in 2017 — which ended up being Fruity Pebbles-flavored.

Fans of the cookie were quick to hop on Twitter to guess the flavor.

Their guesses were, dare I say, not flattering. Funny, but not flattering.

You need to admit, it’s cool that Oreo is trying to right this wrong. Delish reports that the new mystery flavor is a brand new adventure for your tastebuds.

Hopefully, it’s better. Otherwise, this may be the end for Mystery Oreos.

The Oreos are set to officially debut this summer. So that means it’s time to keep your eyes peeled in the grocery store.

And if you want to avoid spoilers, you may want to step away from social media until you’ve tried them yourself. Oreo spoilers probably aren’t as much of a threat as the spoilers for Game of Thrones were this year, but still. You don’t want someone to take the magic out of this guessing game.

If you’re not fond of mysteries, have no fear. There have been other Oreos announced this summer that may be more up your alley.

In May, the company announced five flavors that would also be making their way to your local grocery store this summer. The first is an old favorite — S’Mores. That one is already readily available.

This month, we’ll see the arrival of Oreo Thins Latte and Oreo Marshmallow Moon. The latter’s package actually glows in the dark, which is cool.

In July, we’ll be getting Mint Chocolate Chip Oreos. Since the mint flavor was already a success, these are likely going to fly off the shelves.

Finally, in August, you should expect to see Maple Creme Oreos. Which will either be too sweet, or absolutely perfect. Who knows, we’ll have to wait and see.

As usual, these will all be limited-edition. So if you like one, you may want to stock up and keep them in a secure place where significant others and children can’t easily find them.

Like all Oreos, these new Mystery Oreos will be given a fair chance. At least this time around, Nabisco is fully aware that if a flavor leaves the factory that isn’t a hit, the fans will have no problem letting people know.
