It’s Official: These Were The 10 Most Searched Recipes In 2018

One of the greatest things about the internet is that you can find basically anything with the click of a button using search engines like Google — and that includes any sort of recipe you’d ever want. It can be fun to rifle through cookbooks and cooking magazines, but sometimes it’s just easier and faster to find exactly what you’re looking for online. Recipes are searched for on a daily, constant basis (including on this site!) and it’s always interesting to see what other people are looking for. Google just released their list of the most-searched for recipes of 2018, and it’s actually fascinating to see what everyone wanted to make last year.

Some of the recipes on the list are classics that will probably always be on a list of most-searched-for recipes, while others are definitely more of a surprise (the second one is honestly just weird). Going through these might remind you of a recipe you’ve been wanting to make, or could even inspire you to try something totally new. Plus, don’t you want to see if anything you searched for in 2018 made the list?

Take a look below at the top 10 most searched recipes last year, according to Google. And then let’s start taking bets on what will be on the 2019 list!

1. Pecan Pie

The number one recipe pretty much everyone was searching for this year? A fall and winter dessert classic: pecan pie. It’s hard to go wrong with this pie, which is both sweet and savory, and is almost always a crowd-pleaser. Pecan pie is great for holiday get-togethers and parties, and it’s not even difficult to make — which basically makes it the perfect pie. Try a slight twist with this recipe for mini chocolate bourbon pecan pies.

Of course, you can never forget to add a heaping scoop of ice cream on top:

2. Hummingbird Food

If you’re wondering if this is a trendy new dessert or snack that you simply haven’t heard of or tried yet, you’re unfortunately wrong. When Google says “hummingbird food,” they don’t mean a unique recipe — they mean actual hummingbird food. Apparently, tons of people were searching for what they can feed hummingbirds. Does this really count as a recipe? Did users mean Hummingbird Cake? Doesn’t seem like it, but we’ll go with it.

3. Meatloaf

There is certainly no shortage of jokes out there about meatloaf, but that hasn’t stopped it from continuing to be a dinner mainstay and classic. Will meatloaf ever go away? Doubtful! It’s definitely going to stick around, and we have to recommend that you give it a shot before you knock it down. If you’re really just not a meatloaf person, no worries. We have this “Ma, the meatloaf!” clip from Wedding Crashers that you can watch instead of making actual meatloaf. Just because.

4. Beef Stroganoff

It appears that everyone was all about comfort food in 2018. This mixture of beef, egg noodles, mushrooms, and a thick sauce is ideal for cold winter nights when you just want to be warm and full at home. It’s easier to make than it seems, and it’s not hard to figure out why it was in the top five of this list. Here’s one of our favorite beef stroganoff recipes.

5. Pork Chops

Pork chops are another classic, and there are so many different ways you can prepare them that it’s almost weird to see that something so general made this list. The great thing about pork chops is that they’re really versatile. You can keep them low-key and easy, or you can get a little creative and add different sauces, toppings, and side dishes. Keep them simple, or do something fancier, like adding truffles and mushroom sauce:

6. Chicken Parmesan

Yup, 2018 was definitely the year of comfort food. What could be better than a chicken cutlet covered in tomato sauce and cheese on a cold night? Or any night, for that matter. It’s no surprise that this extremely popular Italian-American recipe was on the list of most-searched recipes. Opt for the true classic, like this one made in the crockpot, or do something totally unique, like this chicken parm pizza:

7. Scalloped Potatoes

In keeping with the comfort food theme, scalloped potatoes also made the list, which shouldn’t be shocking to anyone who has eaten them before. Full of cheese, butter, and herbs, these potatoes have tons of flavor and are an impressive holiday meal. They might be a bit time-consuming to put together, but they’re worth it!

8. Lasagna

It’s impossible to go wrong with lasagna. This classic Italian dish is packed with layers of pasta, cheese, tomato sauce, and sometimes meat or veggies, with a top layer consisting of slightly crunchy noodles and bubbling, melting cheese. Is anyone else drooling? One of the best things is that it’s also versatile. You can do something like mini lasagna cups, or a veggie lasagna if you aren’t into meat:

9. Brussels Sprouts

This is probably the most general search on the whole list, because there are endless amounts of recipes you can make using Brussels sprouts. You can keep them simple with some olive oil, garlic, salt, and pepper (they’re great that way), or get a little more extravagant by adding toppings. You can even put them on pizza!

10. Snickerdoodle Cookies

Not a lot of desserts made this list, but those that did are definitely understandable. Snickerdoodle cookies are an irresistible mix of cinnamon and sugar, and they’re best when eaten warm, right out of the oven. They’re basically perfect.

Okay, is anyone else absolutely starving right about now? We’re definitely making something off of this list tonight!
