Can you believe summertime is almost here? I’m excited about the month of June for two reasons. It’s my birthday month (all gifts are welcome) and secondly, the U.S. Postal Service announced that they’ll be releasing a very special stamp. With the art direction of Virginia-based Antonio Alcala and Leslie Badani and illustrations by the hyper-creative artist Margeret Berg, USPS has created a scratch-and-sniff ice cream stamp collection that will launch in June. The new collection is titled “Frozen Treats Forever” and will be showcased at Thinkery Children’s Museum, in Austin TX and available for purchase on June 20th at 6 p.m. If you can’t make the event, no worries. This collection can be preordered on the U.S. Postal Service website and expected delivery will be shortly after the launch. I can smell the fresh strawberry crunch, and chocolate fudge deliciousness already.
This new collection is making history: It’s the first stamp collection from the U.S. Postal Service to be scented. The love is real! Not only do they care about delivering my birthday cards to me, but they also care about the smell of the envelope, too. My gift card from Grandma this year could potentially smell like my favorite thing in the world, strawberry ice cream. According to the USPS website, this frozen treat theme was chosen because, “Americans love cool, refreshing ice pops on a hot summer day…In recent years, frozen treats containing fresh fruit such as kiwi, watermelon, blueberries, oranges and strawberries have become more common. In addition, flavors such as chocolate, root beer and cola are also popular. Some frozen treats even have two sticks, making them perfect for sharing.” Um yes, I plan on sharing these scratch-and-sniff stamps with friends and family all summer long.
Apart from this new addition to USPS’s newest addition to their merch collection being simply the best, we also love how it pays homage to one of our favorite ’90s trends: everything scratch-and-sniff. Remember scratch-and-sniff stickers? You know you scored whenever your elementary school teacher slapped a scratch-and-sniff apple sticker on your spelling test.
No need to question their choice of Margeret Berg’s illustrations. This South African native has become a staple in the creative industry. Her prestigious clientele includes Godiva Chocolatier, American Greetings, Papyrus, and International Greetings just to name a few. Berg perfectly captured a summer in America in her 10 lively watercolor designs for the Frozen Treats Forever collection.

Fun fact: The U.S. Postal Service highly welcomes stamp suggestions. I’m considering a scratch-and-sniff bacon and pancakes submission. Imagine waking up, checking your mail and getting a whiff of bacon and maple syrup. Thoughts?
