If you’re wondering what moldy jam tastes like, just ask British Prime Minister Theresa May. That’s because moldy jam is her go-to snack, sort of. Honestly, this is not too surprising coming from a country that delights in the taste of Marmite (that’s a yeast extract spread if you weren’t sure).
May, whose recent days have been steeped in political drama, told her cabinet members that she “scrapes” off the mold from old, moldy jars of jam and goes for the fresh jam underneath, according to Daily Mail. Just in case you need to better understand what you read right there, what May is actually saying is that she is totally cool with both witnessing the crusty, moldy layer of old jam and then still eating what’s trapped beneath it. Er — yum?
Although May suggests people use “common sense” when it comes to figuring out whether or not their jam is too moldy, we have to give her props for scavenging the good jam that’s been pouched beneath a layer of ick.
The Food Standards Agency (this is like the British FDA) doesn’t agree, which isn’t exactly surprising. Mold is mold, right? And a bubble of mold hiding “healthy” jam beneath it just seems like a situation that isn’t worth the risk.

Gotta give it up to the Brits. They really know how to put a delicious breakfast together, even if it does contain pig’s blood.
