This Teen Poured Oil On A Skating Rink Because He Thought It Was Funny, & It’s Gone Viral For The Worst Reason

Sometimes, pranks and practical jokes can be funny. Scratching a message into a banana peel to spook an unsuspecting grocery shopper? Funny. But pouring cooking oil on a skating rink while others are just trying to have a good time? Not funny. Not even a little bit. But that’s exactly what a 13-year-old in Rock Hill, South Carolina did. Now, his skating rink prank is going viral, but not for the reasons he hoped.

The incident took place at Kate’s Skating Center on Friday, July 13th. Skaters first noticed that something was wrong when a female patron slipped and fell in the liquid on the rink. Someone called the police, who came and arrested the prankster and charged him with vandalism. The teenager told the police that he did it because he “thought it would be funny,” The Herald.com reports. We think it goes without saying, but it definitely wasn’t funny.

When the culprit was released, that wasn’t the end of it. Oh, no. The teenager’s mom made him return to the scene of the crime and help clean up the mess he made. Which, to a 13-year-old boy, is probably the worst punishment on the planet. The combination of your mom being disappointed in you AND your mom embarrassing you in public is likely enough to make him never do something so stupid ever again. While the teen didn’t serve jail time, we hope that this punishment suffices and he learned his lesson.

“His mother brought the cleaning supplies and made him help clean it up,” said Laura Davis, the Kate’s Skating Center manager.

Unfortunately, Kate’s had to close for a few hours that day to clean up the oily mess.

What’s worse is that because of the skating rink prank, they also had to refund over $600 to patrons that day. Woof.

We’re just glad nobody was seriously hurt because of the skating rink prank. When an idea goes from harmless to potentially harmful, it’s time to pump the breaks.
