Don’t get us wrong — we’re huge supporters of everything Trader Joe’s does. We could live off their mandarin orange chicken, creamy spinach dip, and cinnamon sugar churros. However, we’re a bit put off by one of TJ’s newer holiday desserts. It’s called the Nantucket Style Cranberry Pie and wait, would one really want to eat that much cranberry filling?
The pie itself is filled with cranberries, walnuts, and is accented with almonds and vanilla. “One bite of this pleasantly tart alternative to traditionally super-sweet holiday offerings, and you won’t want to argue about whether it should be called pie, cake or — you’ll just want more,” TJ’s writes. Hmm… okay.
We won’t drink the haterade just yet. We can see this pie being a hit with those who aren’t usually ones for dessert. Or, perhaps one could serve this in lieu of traditional cranberry sauce on Thanksgiving day. If people can get away with serving sweet potatoes with marshmallows, will anyone really question cranberry pie?
Upon further research, it looks like cranberry pie is very much a thing. The Food Network has a recipe for it, as does Bon Appétite. Okay, fine. We’ll give it a shot.
You’re right. We shouldn’t knock a cranberry pie until we try it. We’ve never doubted Trader Joe’s in the past, so we won’t start now.
