Trix Is Bringing Back Their Cereal’s Fruit Shapes — Every ’90s Kid Will Most Definitely Approve

Update (December 18th, 2018 at 10 a.m. PST): The Trix cereal we know and love is officially back on grocery store shelves.

If you’re thinking of memorable cereal mascots, the Trix rabbit should be at the top of the list. All he wanted was to get his hands on a bowl of the colorful, sugary breakfast staple, regardless of the form. And yes, Trix has had two popular forms. Between 1954 and 1991, Trix was shaped similarly to Kix. In fact, the cereal was meant to be a sugar-filled version of the “kid tested, mother approved” cereal that your mom might have had a box of in the pantry. But kids of the ’90s know it best as being shaped like the fruit it was supposed to represent.

After a change back to their spherical form in 2006, news has come out that they’re bringing the fruit shapes back. So yes — you’ll finally be able to eat Trix the same way you did back during the happiest moments of your childhood.

The brains behind Trix reportedly had a lot of fans asking them to change it up.

“Trix cereal is beloved by our fans, and we heard loud and clear that they wanted to see the iconic shapes back in their bowls,” said Scott Baldwin, director of marketing for General Mills cereal, for their press release. “When Trix launched in 1954, it was the first fruit-flavored cereal that was colorful and fun. We’re excited to continue that legacy, bringing an extra dose of joy to breakfast.”

There’s a lot to like about Trix. For one, they seem to stay true to their roots. Even though the cereal shape has changed back and forth, they’ve kept their mascot and have held onto their slogan for decades. “Silly rabbit, Trix are for kids!” still tells you everything you need to know.

Except for a brief venture into the world of yogurt, Trix has always been about fruity cereal.

It’s important to note that the Trix rabbit wasn’t the first animated spokesanimal. Back in 1955, their mascot was a flamingo — but that didn’t last too long. It’s hard to envision the brand without the determined white rabbit behind it.

If you’re not a fan of the fruity shape changeover, just know this: Both shape switch-ups happened due to customer demand. So like with most things in life, you shouldn’t be afraid to make your voice and your opinions heard.

Expect to see the fruit-shaped cereal hit shelves nationwide throughout Fall 2018.
