Taking a vending machine break in the middle of the school day is usually a welcome reprieve. But students at Atlantic Community High School in Delray Beach, Florida were in for a rude awakening when they caught a rat squirming about in their school snack dispenser. Take it from us, it’s nearly impossible to get through the video footage without your skin crawling.
On Wednesday, December 6th, a group of juniors at Atlantic Community caught #SnackRat on film. The video has since been viewed over 2,000 times on Facebook and people are thoroughly freaked. The critter was obviously trying to get out of the vending machine, maneuvering over rows of PopTarts while trying to figure out an escape plan. One student called it an opossum, but his classmate quickly corrected him: “It’s a rat!”
“I was horrified, actually to see that at a public school, that this would go on,” Latoya Johnson, whose daughter took the video, told local station WPTV.
School officials reportedly restricted access to the vending machines and hired an exterminator. The vending machine company was also supposedly notified of the situation. “The vending machine company will need to address the machine issues,” a spokesperson said to WPTV.
We would honestly consider changing school districts if we saw this as a student:
Like, honestly… bye!
Listen, Ratatouille was a cute movie and everything, but there’s a reason it’s a Pixar film and not live-action. Rats are pretty gross and we certainly wouldn’t want their little paws on our PopTarts.
