People Only Want Roommates Who Drink Wine, And Honestly, We Kinda Get It?

roomates drinking wine

I hate to admit this, but I’m a total wine mom. I am the stereotype. I spend all day with my daughter, multitasking with work and house chores. But when my husband comes home and eventually puts her to bed, I drink a glass or two of merlot. It’s my moment to unwind, but not get too sloppy.

I overheard someone at the salon once saying it best. “How come if I have a glass of wine after a hard day, I’m a normal person? But if I switch that out to a rum and Coke, I’m labeled as someone with an alcohol problem?”

Alcohol is alcohol, but wine has that sense of ~intrigue~ to it.

And as it turns out, my preference would make me a popular roommate. SpareRoom, a company that hooks up roommate and living spaces, conducted a survey to see what the most valuable roommate traits were. And it turns out people like people who drink wine. This is just data speaking!

In fact, 25 percent of the 6,000+ people who participated in the survey said that hanging with a wine drinker was crucial.

It’s probably because wine shows that someone is easygoing but still responsible. (That’s an assumption, BTW. Not science-based. Don’t get mad at us.)

It’s not like you can’t get a hangover or overdo with wine. You totally can.

But, it’s often easier to keep track of than shots of vodka and way less extreme.

Wine is more of a drink enjoyed at a certain pace.

Plus, wine often comes with health benefits. You don’t hear much about beer being healthy now, do you?

Red wine is full of resveratrol, which boosts your heart health and helps protect you against certain types of cancer.

Back in the day, wine was actually used to help a bunch of different medical conditions when drank in moderation.

Wine also accompanies a ton of different foods.

And since there’s so many brands and types out there, you’ll never be bored with learning more.

Seriously.

You (and your new wine-loving roommate) can spend hours at a wine store looking at all the variations.

White wine is also beneficial.

LiveStrong reports that it might be linked to lowering Alzheimer’s, and also contains endothelial cells that help protect your body.

So, what can I tell if I meet people who also love wine?

Without even knowing any other details, I’d assume they would be fun roommates to hang out with.

I’d also assume they’d be game for an adventure or two.

Wine drinkers are often down for anything.

One last assumption would be that they’d be a lifelong friend.

Probably because people believe wine drinkers often live longer. Here’s proof.

After Florence Bearse turned 100, she said that wine helped her reach that magnificent milestone.

“I like my wine,” she stated during an on-air interview with WLBZ-TV. “Don’t take it away from me!”

Of course, even though wine drinking is a huge roommate bonus, that’s not the only thing this study uncovered.

Even though it’s the best, for sure.

Future roommates hope to have similar interests and hobbies in common, and a generosity to share things like a Netflix account. Wine and Netflix?

Sounds like the perfect weekend.

Also, neatness matters. You can love wine, but if you’re a slob, that’s no fun for anyone.

PopSugar stated that the results also showed that 74% of people weren’t cool with living with roommates who smoke.

Maybe that’s just the inspiration you’ll need to quit the bad habit.

If you’re thinking of becoming a wine drinker (and are of the legal age to do so) there are a few things to remember.

One, wine really does compliment lots of foods, so it’s important to do your research.

And two, no alcohol is totally safe.

Binging on wine is the opposite of healthy, so make sure you drink responsibly.
