Apple Just Released 70 New Emojis — Food Lovers Are Freaking Out Over The Cupcake And Mango

On Monday, July 16th, Apple gave us an exciting preview of the 70 new emojis it plans to roll out to iPhone users later this year. Apple’s preview arrived just in time for World Emoji Day today, July 17th (which we celebrated by solely communicating via emoji — sorry not sorry, friends). The tech giant only gave us a small taste of the 70 emojis to come, but two food-related emojis left us hungry for more.

According to CNN, Apple’s main goal with this new emoji release was to increase diversity and representation among the characters. The company will introduce redheaded, curly-haired, and gray-haired emojis to their iOS users.

And while we were applauding Apple for delivering what the people asked for, we couldn’t help but notice the ~mango and cupcake emojis~ nestled within the lineup. Do our eyes deceive us?

Last year’s mass emoji update from Unicode Consortium teased the possibility of a mango and/or cupcake emoji, yet neither treat showed up in the 2017 release. We may still be waiting on that bagel emoji to get here, but let’s not bite the hand that feeds us cupcakes and mangos.

Emoji-heads and foodies alike can virtually indulge in their fave sweet treat, whether they prefer a healthier snack or not.

The mango and cupcake emojis were also joined by a head of lettuce, a lobster, and a mooncake in the emoji preview. The emoji menu is expanding and we like it.

As exciting as this all is, we’ll have to sit tight and wait patiently for the Apple iOS emoji update to arrive. We might just have to pass the time by eating actual cupcakes and mangos…
