Let’s catch you up. The 14th season of ABC’s The Bachelorette premiered on Monday, and there’s already some major drama.
Becca Kufrin was introduced to us as the newest bachelorette a few months back on The Bachelor. Kufrin was in the final two with Lauren Burnham and won. She accepted the final rose and engagement to Arie Luyendyk Jr. It wasn’t until a few weeks in when Luyendyk decided to end things with Kufrin and GO BACK to the other Final Two girl, the one he sent home and did not propose to on national television, Lauren B. Luyendyk called a camera crew and all of America watched and cringed at the most awkward and soul-wrenching break up between the imperfect pairing.
After watching that breakup in front of the world, Becca was told she would be the next bachelorette and that she could be engaged before summer even begins. So, best of luck to you, girl!
Twenty-eight men drove up to the mansion in this week’s episode and each had a different first impression. The star of this story, Joe Amabile, just so happened to be…well, unforgettable. And maybe not in the best way. When it was his make it or break it moment come to…well, this happened:
“I’m Joe and I forgot everything I was going to say to you.”
Yes, that is what he said. So, not great. But there was still a cocktail party with one-on-ones to get to know him better. This takes place after Kufrin meets every guy. She takes one man and leads them to the backyard where they just talk for a bit until another contestant rudely interrupts them. While the two talk, everyone is drinking and probably way too much. By this point, do we think Grocery Store Joe can redeem himself?
So, it becomes Joe’s turn to steal Becca away and chit-chat. From their conversation we learned that he’s from Chicago. He works with produce (interesting?). And…*gasp* he made a pun. But! Will she think it’s hilarious or the dorkiest thing in the world? Here’s what he said:
And then he went on to discuss wanting to sell watermelons to grocery stores. Like, what a way to get to know someone. I mean, who wouldn’t want someone who knows all about food and especially grocery shopping?!

Alas, our boy Joe got cut at the end of the night. I guess first impressions really are everything and Becca just wasn’t buying what Joe was supplying (sorry, internet).
As America watched their boy leave without a rose, their hearts broke. They were rooting for the nice guy known as #GroceryStoreJoe and now have to find a new man to be their season favorite.
