Dear Duff Goldman,
Your show, Ace of Cakes, aired in 2006-2011 and it has changed my life. No, I am not a chef, baker, or culinary enthusiast. I am simply a fan of good television. Your charisma, passion for baking, and your killer group of friends are what made me fall in love with your world.
An episode would begin with a client walking in or calling in to request a cake for a private event like weddings and birthdays or big public events, like celebrating a movie premiere or a television episode.
Duff and his team would come up with a blueprint for this magnificent custom and edible cake. During the process of constructing and decorating the masterpiece, the staff would crack jokes and are shown constantly having fun to avoid the stress and long hours it takes to bake a cake.
Once the beautiful design was complete, Duff, and usually Geoff, would drive to the event where the television audience got to witness some ups and downs. Cakes are not meant to be driven which means they could break, fall apart, or just crumble to pieces. Duff and his team would always find a way to come out on top and leave their client ecstatic about their one-of-a-kind creation.
Every episode was a new adventure for me and the entire staff at Charm City Cakes. You take a rockstar baker who hired all of his best friends and you watch them make cakes. Cakes!
The show Ace of Cakes may have ended, but Charm City Cakes is still going strong with two locations. Goldman even has a “DIY Dessert Design Studio” called Duff’s Cake Mix scattered throughout southern California.
Duff hasn’t called it quits with the TV world either. You can find him all over the Food Network. Duff stars on Dessert Games, Spring Baking Championship, Holiday Baking Championship (Another one of my favs), Cake Masters, and Duff Till Dawn. Duff’s current show he is working on is Kids Baking Championship where he and Valerie Bertinelli host challenges for the youngest bakers out there.
Thanks, Duff, for all the laughs, inspiration, and creativity you have shared with us. We’ve gotten to know you over the past decade and now we’re watching you grow even more as a personality. Keep on rocking (Yes, he is also a musician!).
