This Image Shows You What’s Inside Nutella — You Will Never Recover

Warning: The truth sometimes hurts, including the truth about what’s inside Nutella. Our beloved spread, which has easily become the best thing to ever happen to bread (and basically everything else), has surprised us in a not-so-great way. After finding out what’s really inside the spread, I must admit that I can’t unsee that image. It’s now burned into my brain.

If you’re unfamiliar with the product Nutella, allow me to quickly fill you in. This is a hazelnut and cocoa spread created by the company Ferrero. I’m aware that Nutella isn’t a strictly healthy option, but the advertisements have always made it seem healthier than one would think — because it’s made without any artificial ingredients. Actually knowing what the ingredients on aare — instead of the long chemical names we’re used to — doesn’t automatically mean something is healthy, but it can trick you into thinking so (guilty).

Well, the facts have arrived as a viral picture uploaded on Reddit, displaying a visual of exactly what the inside of Nutella really is.

According to Insider, Nutella is only five ingredients: palm oil, cocoa, hazelnuts, skimmed milk powder, and sugar. But the amount of sugar is more than half of the bottle. The other majority of the product is palm oil, which is basically liquid saturated fat.

Of course, Ferraro has a disclaimer, also reported on Insider, that states, “One of Ferrero’s core nutritional beliefs is that small portion sizes help people to enjoy their favourite foods in moderation. The labeling on all our products enables consumers to make informed choices and helps ensure that Nutella can be enjoyed as part of a balanced diet.” At the same time, it’s also up to consumers to do their due diligence and read labels while grocery shopping — that’s the only way you’ll ever know what’s really inside your favorite foods.
