This Little Girl Was Named Reese E. Cupp After The Chocolate. Is This Real Life?

Americans like chocolate — that’s a fact. While our country doesn’t eat as much of it as Switzerland (although…that’s debatable), it’s still our go-to treat for almost every holiday. Chocolate for Easter. Chocolate for Halloween. Chocolate for Valentine’s Day. Chocolate just because! But would you think that we’d like it so much that we’d name our children after it? Sure, there’s probably a lot of baby Ruths out there, but one kid takes the cake as the youngest chocoholic ever — and that’s Reese E. Cupp.

Oh yes. You read that right. Reese, who’s currently eight years old and living in North Carolina, was named after her parents’ fave candy. In an interview with People, mom Renee Cupp said that the frontrunner was Lily throughout her pregnancy, but Reese was a last-minute decision.

Reese’s full name, per her birth certificate, is Reese Eve Cup. Renee says that she always pronounced it as “Reese-Ees,” which is actually the wrong pronunciation — back in 2015, a Buzzfeed article helped set the record straight, and the debate was reignited last year. It’s “Rees-ehs,” just FYI.

“Everyone calls her ‘Rees-ee,’” Cupp noted. “It’s our favorite candy for sure. We have it in the house almost all the time. We have the Half Pound Big Cup in our freezer and the Reese’s spread in our pantry.”

As of right now, little Reese — also a fan of chocolate and peanut butter (thankfully) — is also fond of her name, with Cupp telling People that “She always says ‘oh, little Reese Cup. I’m a little Reese Cup.’ She loves everything chocolate.”

It’s good that Reese will never have to question the story of how her parents chose her memorable monicker. We hope someday, if they haven’t already, they’ll get to visit Pennsylvania’s Hershey Park and meet another Reese’s Cup in person.
