The Met Gala Served A Male-Female Cake Person For Dessert

The 2019 Met Gala went down last night, on Monday, May 6th, and as usual, it was an event that was nearly impossible to ignore. For those who aren’t fully aware, the Met Gala is the Metropolitan Museum of Art Costume Institute’s annual black-tie benefit that is always held on the first Monday in May. It raises money for the Costume Institute, but it’s also a night to see celebrities walk the pink carpet decked out in their most elaborate looks of the year. This year’s theme was “Camp: Notes on Fashion,” based on the Susan Sontag essay “Notes on Camp,” and the looks were especially wild.

But it wasn’t just about the fashion — everyone also wants to know what went on inside the Met during the gala itself. What happens once celebrities leave the pink carpet and get into the room is often left a secret. As The New York Times points out, posting about the actual event itself on social media once the carpet is over is banned. Most stars follow this rule, since no one wants to get blacklisted from future invitation lists by Vogue’s Anna Wintour.

Sometimes, though, some details slip through. Like this year, when we got a glimpse at the menu being served to all the guests.

A press release for the Met Gala was shared on Man Repeller’s Instagram Story, and it shows exactly what everyone was eating all night long.

You know the food had to be good. It was catered by Olivier Cheng, one of the best caterers in New York City, according to Refinery 29.

So what was served?

The menu included a few different appetizers, like baby shrimp toast with lemon, horseradish, and watermelon radishes.

There was also an asparagus tart with celery leaf pesto. This isn’t a photo of the actual tart, but we’re imaging this is what it looked like!

And also tomatoes stuffed with green goddess panna cotta. Sounds just about fancy enough for something like the Met Gala!

One entree option sounds totally over-the-top, but really good. It was filet of beef with beet horseradish crema.

This was accompanied by a tomato rye tartlet, haricots verts in citrus balsamic garnished with orange flowers, braised rainbow carrots with thyme, and a mascarpone potato puree.

All we can say is… wow.

For wine, guests had a choice. There was a 2017 Terre Nere Etna Bianco called Le Vigne Niche Calderara Sottanna. This is a white wine.

And then there was a 2015 Bruno Giacosa, Barbera d’Alba “Falletto.” This one was a red.

We can only imagine that there were other drink options as well. There had to have been, right?

The dessert was pretty bizarre, although it does sound delicious. Guests got gianduja (chocolate hazelnut) cake that looked like a little male/female figure. You can see it on Lili Reinhart’s Instagram story:

There were also flamingo cookies and espresso served as guests left. We wouldn’t mind being handed that as we left!

That wasn’t the only food news of the night, though. Actress Tiffany Haddish actually brought her own emergency snack.

Haddish told E! News that since there’s never enough food at the Met Gala, she decided to take matters into her own hands. She brought a little baggie of emergency fried chicken. Can you really blame her, though?

And Katy Perry literally dressed as a hamburger for the second half of the event. Like, an actual hamburger costume.

She even danced in a lettuce dress! That’s commitment.

So now we know. The Met Gala only serves fancy food, and not enough of it, apparently. Although it does have some pretty creative desserts! We’ll go back to dreaming we’re going to be invited one day.
